Iowa Football Recruiting: Hawkeye Commit Recap, Week of Oct. 29

A few members of Iowa’s recruiting class of 2019 were on a bye this week, but several had impressive performances while keeping their high school teams’ playoff dreams alive.

Sebastian Castro has been one of the most impressive commits for Iowa this season.

The Hawkeyes continued their struggles this week, dropping their second straight road game. For a number of future Hawkeyes, things are going much better. Here’s our weekly recap of current Hawkeye commit performances last week.

Alex Padilla, QB

Hometown: Greenwood Village, CO (Cherry Creek)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 195
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Coming off their first loss of the season, Quarterback commit Alex Padilla and Cherry Creek were on a first round bye in the Colorado class 5A playoffs this week.

On the season, Padilla has 1,478 passing yards and 20 touchdowns with only 1 interception. He also has two rushing touchdowns.

Cherry Creek (8-1) will take on Castle View in the second round this week.

Tyler Goodson, RB

Hometown: Suwanee, GA (North Gwinnett)
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 192
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Like Padilla, running back commit Tyler Goodson and North Gwinnett had the week off. Finishing the regular season 8-2 they will face off with Gwinnett Central in the first round of the Georgia class 7A playoffs this week.

On the season, Goodson has 971 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns on 125 carries for a 7.8 yard per carry average. He’s also got a passing touchdown out of the wildcat and a touchdown reception.

Desmond Hutson, WR

Hometown: Raytown, MO (Raytown)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 195
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Wide receiver commit Desmond Hutson and Raytown were in action in the second round of the playoffs this week. Hutson hauled in 7 catches for 47 yards, but failed to find the endzone as Raytown’s season came to an end. They fell to Belton 35-7.

Hutson finishes his senior season with 742 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns on 44 receptions for a 16.9 yard per catch average. Raytown ends the year 8-2.

Logan Lee, TE

Hometown: Orion, IL (Orion)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 225
Stars: 247 Sports - 4 Rivals - 3

Tight end commit Logan Lee remains out for the remainder of his senior season with a lacerated spleen.

Lee finished his senior season with 442 receiving yards with 10 TDs on 26 catches (17.0 ypc). He also has 46 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks on the defensive side of the ball.

Orion defeated Rockridge 21-17 in the second round of Illinois class 2A playoffs this week. They advance to take on third-seeded Eastman-Pearl City in state quarterfinals on Saturday.

Josiah Miamen, TE

Hometown: Dunlap, IL (Dunlap)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 225
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Tight end commit Josiah Miamen and Dunlap were defeated in the first round of the Illinois class 6A playoffs a week ago.

Miamen finished his senior seas 464 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns on 24 catches for an average of 19.3 yards per reception this year. Dunlap closed out the season 7-3.

Jack Campbell, LB

Hometown: Cedar Falls, IA (Cedar Falls)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 210
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Linebacker commit Jack Campbell racked up another 12 tackles in Cedar Falls’ second round playoff win over Wauke 40-7 this week. Campbell now has 132 tackles , 11.5 TFL and 5 sacks on the year.

Cedar Falls moves to 11-0 and advances to the third round of the Iowa class 4A playoffs. They’ll take on Bettendorf this week for a trip to the state championship on the line.

Jestin Jacobs, LB

Hometown: Clayton, OH (Northmont)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 205
Stars: 247 Sports - 4 Rivals - 3

Fellow linebacker commit Jestin Jacobs had himself quite a week. He had four tackles on defense and a rushing touchdown as Northmont defeated Hilliard Darby in the first round of the playoffs.

Here’s a look at the highlights:

Jacobs now has 34 tackles, 4 sacks and a fumble recovery on defense.

The success on the field is being recognized for Jacobs. Last week he was invited to participate in the Army All-America game.

It only took a few days for the home state school, Ohio State, to notice. They offered Jacobs a scholarship this week.

For now, Jacobs and his family are saying all the right things, indicating he’s still committed to Iowa and just excited about the opportunity. This will be one to keep an eye on. Jacobs is currently slated to sign with Iowa in December and enroll in January.

Northmont improves to 10-1. They’ll face off with Pickerington Central in the second round of the Ohio division 1 playoffs this week.

Sebastian Castro, S

Hometown: Oak Lawn, IL (Richards)
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 198
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Safety commit Sebastian Castro also had perhaps the performance of the week. He finished with a season high 10 tackles as well as a pair of interceptions, a forced fumble and a rushing touchdown as Richards came from behind to defeat Yorkville 35-21 in the second round of the Illinois class 6A playoffs.

Here’s a look at the highlights.

As we’ve come to expect, there’s a couple clips in there where Castro absolutely destroys an opponent. He’s going to be a good one.

On the season Castro now has 54 tackles, including 6 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions and 5 forced fumbles. On offense, he’s over 300 yards rushing with 9 touchdowns.

Richards moves to 11-0 with the win. They advance to face Normal West in the state semifinals.

Dane Belton, CB/S

Hometown: Tampa, FL (Jesuit)
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 185
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Fellow defensive back commit Dane Belton had a pair of tackles, as well as two passes broken up as Tampa Jesuit defeated Tampa Catholic 17-7 to close out the regular season. Jesuit finishes 9-1 with the win.

Here’s a look at the highlights:

On the year, Belton now has 35 tackles, 6 passes defended and a pair of interceptions. Jesuit will take on DeSoto County in the first round of the state playoffs this week.

Jake Karchinski, DE

Hometown: De Pere, WI (West De Pere)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 245
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Defensive end commit Jake Karchinski and West De Pere continued their playoff run with a win over Notre Dame Academy (Green Bay) 17-3 this week. Karchinski had 3 tackles, including 1 for loss, and a forced fumble.

Karchinski now has 48 tackles, 14 TFL and 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble as well as a fumble recovery. West De Pere (12-0) advances to take on Rice Lake for a spot in the state championship this week.

Jalen Hunt, DE

Hometown: Belleville, MI (Belleville)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 250
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Finally, Jalen Hunt had a pair of tackles, including one for loss, as Belleville defeated Monroe 49-33.

Belleville moves to 11-0. They advance to take on West Bloomfield in the quarterfinal this week.


Lineman Notes

Offensive line commit Justin Britt remains sidelined with his torn ACL. Warren Central defeated Lawrence Central 55-7 in the second round of the Indiana playoffs. They advance to take on North Central this Friday.

OL commit Noah Fenske and New Hampton finished their season 3-6 and did not make the state playoffs.

Offensive lineman Ezra Miller and Ridge View also finished the year 3-6 and outside the playoffs.

And finally, lineman Tyler Endres and Norwalk were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, finishing the season 6-4.
