The Iowa Hawkeyes open their 2018-19 season against the Guilford College Quakers. Guildford College finished last season with more wins (15) than Iowa (14) but they are also a Division III team from Greensboro, North Carolina.
Guilford has 27 guys on their roster. M.L. Carr, World B. Free, and noted “adult glove-wearer to baseball games” Zack Hample are alums, according to Wikipedia. And that’s all I got about them. Here’s what I’ll be looking for today:
- Joe Wieskamp. It’s his first live action as a Hawkeye. Will he start? Will he dunk? Will he drain threes? Will he be the defensive spark Iowa’s needed? He’s pretty much the only unknown on this roster so clarifying anything related to him will be exciting.
- Is Luka Garza good to go? After getting a 9-pound cyst removed, he’s returned to basketball activities faster than they initially said. If he’s out there, how does Iowa’s post rotation fall around him and Tyler Cook? If he doesn’t go, I’m not sure there’s much to gather from the rotation they’ll run out.
- Do Jordan Bohannon and Connor McCaffery share the court? I’m just curious about this. (Edit: no they will not) With more bodies at guard, Fran McCaffery has more flexibility there. Do we see Iowa go smaller than they went for most of last year?
