It’s Championship Week around college football and while that can be a slightly sobering, disappointing thing for those of us who had fooled ourselves into believing at some point that Iowa could be in action this weekend, it’s still a fun time to be a college football fan. The total slate is significantly pared down, but the nature of a championship week dictates that virtually every game is going to be worth watching.
So, knowing you’re probably going to have some interest in almost every game, here’s a look at where to find the games.
Note: All times are as the good Lord intended, in the central time zone. Because we’re not savages.
There are a pair of games tonight and both should be of at least mild interest to Hawkeye fans. At 6pm CT, we have the MAC Championship from Detroit. You can catch that one on ESPN2. That’s interesting because Iowa’s week 1 opponent, Northern Illinois, is battling Buffalo for the title. Go Huskies?
At 7pm CT, you’ve got the PAC-12 title game. That features #17 Utah taking on #11 Washington from Santa Clara. You can catch the game on FOX. This one is of interest because one of the potential bowl implications. One of the liking landing spots for the Hawkeyes is the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. If they end up their, they’ll be facing off with a PAC-12 foe, potentially the loser of this game.
And that’s it for Friday.
Saturday has a full slate of games. Most are championship games, but there are a few make-up games thrown in as well.
Things kick off as usual at 11am CT. ABC has the Big 12 Championship between #14 Texas and #5 Oklahoma. If Texas pulls off the upset, do we actually declare them back?
The only other championship game in the early slot is the Sun Belt. That features Louisiana and Appalachian State over on ESPN. If you get bored, South Carolina is hosting Akron on the SEC Network and Iowa State is hosting Drake on

closed circuit television inside Jack Trice Stadium. Nice work Jamie Pollard.
At 12:30 CT, the Conference USA Championship featuring UAB and MIddle Tennessee is on CBS Sports Net.
At 2:30, you’ve got the AAC Championship on ABC. That’s #8 UCF against Memphis.
The crown jewel of the day starts just a half hour later. The SEC Championship is on CBS at 3 CT and will feature #1 Alabama and #4 Georgia. This one has major playoff implications. If Georgia wins, both teams would likely get in (we all know there’s no keeping Alabama out). Even if Georgia keeps it close, they might sneak in, though it would depend on what happens with the Big 12 and Big Ten championships.
In the evening, you’ve got you’ve got the Mountain West Championship at 6:45 CT on ESPN. That features #25 Fresno State and #22 Boise State.
And at 7pm CT, you’ve got a pair of games to choose from. ABC has #2 Clemson and Pittsburgh in the ACC Championship. And of course FOX will air the Big Ten Championship, featuring #6 Ohio State and #21 Northwestern.
And that’s it, folks. Here’s a look at the full slate for Saturday:

As for the beverages, December will officially be here as of this weekend and I’m all in on the holiday spirit. That means some mix of holiday themed beer and bring on that egg nog baby! Anybody got recommendations on either front? I have three Christmases with 8 kids to survive. Daddy’s gonna need some drinks!
