Iowa Football Recruiting: Hawkeye Commit Recap, Week of Oct. 1

The Hawkeyes brought home the bacon this week. The commits in the class of 2019 did their part to bring the rest of the meal.

It was a big weekend for the Iowa offense as the Hawkeyes racked up more than 400 yards and 48 points. It was a similarly big weekend for a number of Iowa’s commits in the class of 2019. Here’s our weekly recap of current Hawkeye commit performances last week:

Alex Padilla, QB

Hometown: Greenwood Village, CO (Cherry Creek)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 195
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Quarterback commit Alex Padilla and Cherry Creek had their game cancelled last week.

On the season, Padilla remains at 1107 passing yards and 16 touchdowns on 90 of 134 passing (67.2%). He also has two rushing touchdowns.

Cherry Creek (6-0) will be back in action this week as they travel to Eaglecrest.

Tyler Goodson, RB

Hometown: Suwanee, GA (North Gwinnett)
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 192
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Running back commit Tyler Goodson had another monster game this week. He totaled 137 yards and 3 touchdowns on 15 carries as North Gwinnett cruised to a 50-25 win over Mill Creek.

Here’s a look at the highlights:

On the season, Goodson now has 741 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns on 99 carries for a 7.5 yard per carry average. He’s also got a passing touchdown out of the wildcat.

North Gwinnett (5-2) will be at Collins Hill this week.

Desmond Hutson, WR

Hometown: Raytown, MO (Raytown)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 195
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Wide receiver commit Desmond Hutson had a bit of a disappointing week as he was finally held in check. He finished with only 26 yards and no touchdowns on 2 total catches. That didn’t stop Raytown from coming away victorious as they defeated Fort Osage 42-35.

On the season, Hutson now has 605 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns on 30 receptions for a 20.2 yard per catch average on the season.

Hutson will look to get back on track as Raytown (6-1) will be at Belton this week.

Logan Lee, TE

Hometown: Orion, IL (Orion)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 225
Stars: 247 Sports - 4 Rivals - 3

It was a good news, bad news week for tight end commit Logan Lee. He had an incredible performance on the field as he hauled in 8 catches for an incredible 208 yards and two touchdowns on offense. He also tallied 3 tackles, 2 TFL and a sack on the defensive side of the ball as Orion remained unbeaten with a 49-13 victory over Morrison.

Lee showed a little bit of everything offensively this week. First it was the power:

Then it was the finesse with this beautiful toe tap for a touchdown:

Unfortunately for Lee, it wasn’t all good news this week. He suffered an injury in the second quarter, which was thought to be a rib issue, but decided to play through the pain. Turns out, it was more severe than a rib issue, which can be played through provided the pain is tolerable.

Lee finishes his senior season with 442 receiving yards with 10 TDs on 26 catches (17.0 ypc). He also has 46 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks on the defensive side of the ball.

Orion (7-0) will move forward without Lee as they host Bureau Valley this week. Best of luck to Logan Lee in his recovery

Josiah Miamen, TE

Hometown: Dunlap, IL (Dunlap)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 225
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Fellow tight end commit Josiah Miamen’s was back in action this week after he was sidelined a week ago. He got right back into the swing of things with 101 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns on 3 catches. Dunlap rolled to a 48-0 victory over Limestone.

Dunlap (5-1) will be at Canton this week.

Jack Campbell, LB

Hometown: Cedar Falls, IA (Cedar Falls)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 210
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Jack Campbell had another very good outing this week. He logged 6 tackles with 2 TFL and a sack as Cedar Falls cruised to a 55-0 win over Waterloo West.

On the season, Campbell now has 81 tackles , 6.5 TFL and 4 sacks through 7 games.

Cedar Falls (7-0) will host Dubuque Senior this week.

Jestin Jacobs, LB

Hometown: Clayton, OH (Northmont)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 205
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Fellow linebacker commit Jestin Jacobs also had a very solid performance this week. He finished with 4 tackles and a sack, but also added a 59-yard touchdown run on the offensive side of the ball as Northmont came away with a 25-7 win over Springfield.

Here’s a look at the highlights:

In five games this season, Jacobs now has 19 tackles, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery on defense.

The win moves Northmont to 6-1 on the season. They’ll will be at Centerville this week.

Sebastian Castro, S

Hometown: Oak Lawn, IL (Richards)
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 198
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Safety commit Sebastian Castro bounced back this week by recording 6 tackles and running for a touchdown on the offensive side of the ball. Richards remained unbeaten with a 33-3 win over Lemont.

Here’s a look at the highlights.

Castro continues to look like he’s playing at a different speed than everyone else.

On the season Castro now has 32 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss, as well as 2 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles. On offense, he’s over 300 yards rushing with 6 touchdowns.

Richards (7-0) will be at Reavis this week.

Dane Belton, CB/S

Hometown: Tampa, FL (Jesuit)
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 185
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Fellow defensive back commit Dane Belton had a very nice week as he totaled 8 tackles and broke up 2 passes. He also added a 45-yard punt return for a touchdown. Jesuit came away with a 21-7 win over Osceola.

Here’s a look at the highlights.

Belton now has 26 tackles, two passes defended and an interception through six games this season. Jesuit (6-0) will be at Robinson this week.

Jake Karchinski, DE

Hometown: De Pere, WI (West De Pere)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 245
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Defensive end commit Jake Karchinski finished with 5 tackles and a pair of sacks as West De Pere came away with a 43-20win over Waupaca last week.

On the season Karchinski now has 34 tackles, 10 TFL and 6.5 sacks as well as a fumble recovery. West De Pere (8-0) will host Green Bay East this week.

Jalen Hunt, DE

Hometown: Belleville, MI (Belleville)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 250
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Finally, Jalen Hunt and Belleville kept their season perfect with a 46-0 shutout of Stevenson this week. As we’ve seen all season, there are no stats available for Hunt.

Belleville (7-0) will host Franklin this week.


Lineman Notes

Offensive line commit Justin Britt remains sidelined with his torn ACL. Warren Central and top WR target David Bell continued their dominance on the season as they cruised to their 8th consecutive victory with a 41-17 win over Carmel. The victory sealed a MIC conference championship.

Warren Central will host close out their regular season this week as they host Bowling Green before taking on Ben Davis in the first round of the Indiana playoffs on October 26th.

Fellow lineman commit Noah Fenske and New Hampton came up just short as they fell 27-21 to Crestwood this week. New Hampton (2-5) will be at Clear Lake this week.

Elsewhere, offensive lineman Ezra Miller and Ridge View finally got into the win column with a 26-0 win over Fort Dodge St. Edmond this week. Ridge View racked up over 200 yards rushing behind Miller, who also logged 10 tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

Ridge View (1-6) will be at Manson Northwest Webster this week.

And finally, lineman Tyler Endres and Norwalk racked up their third straight win. This time it came at the expense of Bondurant-Farrar, who they defeated 19-7. Now boasting a winning record at 4-3, Norwalk will be at Ballard this week.
