Iowa Football Recruiting: Hawkeye Commit Recap, Week of Sep. 24

The Hawkeyes took the week off, but the recruits in the class of 2019 did not. Here’s your weekly update on commitment performances.

The Hawkeyes were on a bye last week, but future Hawkeyes were out in full force. There were a number of impressive performances around the country. Here’s a recap of current Hawkeye commit performances last week:

Alex Padilla, QB

Hometown: Greenwood Village, CO (Cherry Creek)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 195
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Quarterback commit Alex Padilla continued his impressive senior campaign with another solid outing this week. He went 15 of 23 passing for 141 yards and 3 TDs. Cherry Creek remained unbeaten with a 45-0 win over Overland.

On the season, Padilla now has 1107 passing yards and 16 touchdowns on 90 of 134 passing (67.2%). He also has two rushing touchdowns.

Cherry Creek (6-0) looks to remain unbeaten and top-ranked as they take on Arapahoe this week.

Tyler Goodson, RB

Hometown: Suwanee, GA (North Gwinnett)
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 192
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Running back commit Tyler Goodson had another very good week. He racked up 121 yards and 2 TDs on 10 carries as North Gwinnett came away with another big win. This one was 45-7 over Mountain View.

Here are a few of the highlights.

On the season, Goodson now has 604 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns on 84 carries for a 7.2 yard per carry average. He’s also got a passing touchdown out of the wildcat.

North Gwinnett (4-2) will take on Mill Creek this week.

Desmond Hutson, WR

Hometown: Raytown, MO (Raytown)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 195
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Wide receiver commit Desmond Hutson picked back up right where he left off a week ago. He tallied 116 receiving yards and a touchdowns on 6 catches. Raytown rolled to a 44-29 victory over Grain Valley.

Here are the highlights.

Hutson now has 579 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns on 28 receptions for a 20.8 yard per catch average on the season.

Raytown (5-1) hosts Fort Osage this week.

Logan Lee, TE

Hometown: Orion, IL (Orion)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 225
Stars: 247 Sports - 4 Rivals - 3

Tight end commit Logan Lee had another tremendous outing this week. He found the endzone twice on three total catches for 55 yards. He also notched 10 tackles and two more sacks after tallying 7 a week ago.

Here’s a look at the highlights.

On the season, Lee is now up to 234 receiving yards with 8 TDs on 18 catches (13.0 ypc). He also has 43 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and 14 sacks on the defensive side of the ball.

Orion (6-0) will be at Morrison this week as they look to remain unbeaten.

Josiah Miamen, TE

Hometown: Dunlap, IL (Dunlap)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 225
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

After Josiah Miamen’s first week as a Hawkeye commit, he was sidelined with what’s considered to be a minor injury, missing Dunlap’s matchup with East Peoria. That didn’t stop Dunlap from getting the win 28-16.

Miamen is expected back as Dunlap (4-1) hosts Limestone this week.

Jack Campbell, LB

Hometown: Cedar Falls, IA (Cedar Falls)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 210
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

After a tremendous performance a week, ago, Jack Campbell outdid himself this week. He logged 15 tackles for the second consecutive week. This week, he also added a sack and returned a blocked punt for a touchdown as Cedar Falls cruised to a 38-7 victory over Cedar Rapids Jefferson.

On the season, Campbell now has 75 tackles , 4.5 TFL and 3 sacks through 6 games. Those impressive numbers are why Campbell is looking for votes to make the Under Armour All-America Game.

Cedar Falls (6-0) will be at Waterloo West this week.

Jestin Jacobs, LB

Hometown: Clayton, OH (Northmont)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 205
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Fellow linebacker commit Jestin Jacobs is also looking for votes to make the Under Armour All-America Game.

That ask comes after another game where Jacobs wasn’t needed in a big way as Northmont rolled to a 49-7 victory over Lebanon. Jacobs did add a pair of tackles in the win.

In four games this season, Jacobs now has 15 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.

The win moves Northmont to 5-1 on the season. They’ll will host Springfield this week.

Sebastian Castro, S

Hometown: Oak Lawn, IL (Richards)
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 198
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Safety commit Sebastian Castro had perhaps his most disappointing performance of the season from a statistical standpoint. That had little to do with his actual output and more to do with the fact that Richards blasted Argo 50-0. Castro, in limited minutes, had 3 tackles and a pass break up.

Here’s a look at the highlights.

It’s always interesting watching his highlights as he appears to be shot out of a cannon on every play.

On the season Castro now has 26 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss, as well as 2 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles. On offense, he’s up to nearly 300 yards rushing with 5 touchdowns.

Richards (6-0) will host Lemont this week.

Dane Belton, CB/S

Hometown: Tampa, FL (Jesuit)
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 185
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Fellow defensive back commit Dane Belton had a similar night to Castro. He also totaled 3 tackles as Jesuit rolled to a 59-0 victory over Spoto Friday.

Here’s a look at the highlights.

Belton now has 18 tackles and an interception through five games this season. Jesuit (5-0) will host Osceola this week.

Jake Karchinski, DE

Hometown: De Pere, WI (West De Pere)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 245
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Defensive end commit Jake Karchinski finished with 3 tackles as West De Pere came away with another relatively painless win. They defeated Menasha 35-7 on Friday.

On the season Karchinski now has 29 tackles, 8 TFL and 4.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. West De Pere (7-0) will be at Waupaca this week.

Jalen Hunt, DE

Hometown: Belleville, MI (Belleville)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 250
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Finally, Jalen Hunt and Belleville kept their season perfect with a 29-26 squeaker over Dearborn Fordson this week. As we’ve seen all season, there are no stats available for Hunt.

Belleville (6-0) will be at Stevenson this week.


Lineman Notes

Offensive line commit Justin Britt remains sidelined with his torn ACL. Warren Central and top WR target David Bell continued to put on an offensive show in his absence. They moved to 7-0 on the year with an incredible 72-25 win over Lawrence North. Kirk Ferentz and WR coach Kelton Copeland were on hand to watch Bell haul in 12 catches for 284 yards and 4 touchdowns, as well as throwing a 56-yard touchdown pass. He remains the top target on the Iowa recruiting board.

Warren Central will host Carmel this Friday.

Lineman commit Noah Fenske and New Hampton turned a win a week ago into a streak as they defeated Iowa Falls-Alden 28-7. Fenske had 5 tackles on defense in the effort. New Hampton (2-4) will host Crestwood this week.

Elsewhere, offensive lineman Ezra Miller and Ridge View had another disappointing week. They suffered their 6th straight loss, falling to Alta-Aurelia 38-12. Ridge View (0-6) will host Fort Dodge St. Edmond this week.

And finally, lineman Tyler Endres and Norwalk got another win. This time it was a 36-3 victory over North Polk. Now 3-3, Norwalk will head to Bondurant-Farrar this week.
