Iowa Football Recruiting: Hawkeye Commit Recap, Week of Oct. 15

Several of Iowa’s commits in the class of 2019 closed out their regular seasons last week. We recap how they looked and who will be moving on to their state playoffs.

As the Hawkeyes continued their winning ways on Satruday, so too did a number of the commitments in the class of 2019 continue their push toward their respective state playoffs last week. Here’s our weekly recap of current Hawkeye commit performances last week.

Alex Padilla, QB

Hometown: Greenwood Village, CO (Cherry Creek)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 195
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Another week, another ranked opponent quarterback commit Alex Padilla and top-ranked Cherry Creek. This week, it was #10 Cherokee Trail. Padilla finished with 164 yards and two touchdowns as Cherry Creek came away victorious 35-14.

On the season, Padilla now has 1392 passing yards and 19 touchdowns. He also has two rushing touchdowns.

Cherry Creek (8-0) will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Grandview this week.

Tyler Goodson, RB

Hometown: Suwanee, GA (North Gwinnett)
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 192
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Running back commit Tyler Goodson had a breeze of a senior night. He carried the ball only 4 times in a 41-0 blowout of Duluth, but two of those went for touchdowns as he finished with 67 rushing yards.

Here’s a look at some of the highlights:

On the season, Goodson now has 932 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns on 119 carries for a 7.8 yard per carry average. He’s also got a passing touchdown out of the wildcat and a touchdown reception.

North Gwinnett (7-2) will close out the regular season at Peachtree Ridge this week.

Desmond Hutson, WR

Hometown: Raytown, MO (Raytown)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 195
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Wide receiver commit Desmond Hutson wrapped up the regular season of his senior campaign last week with a 5 catch for 33 yard performance. Raytown came away with a 35-34 win over North Kansas City.

Hutson finishes the regular season with 695 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns on 40 receptions for a 17.4 yard per catch average.

Raytown finishes the regular season 8-1. They’re on a bye this week in the Missouri State Playoffs.

Logan Lee, TE

Hometown: Orion, IL (Orion)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 225
Stars: 247 Sports - 4 Rivals - 3

Tight end commit Logan Lee is out for the remainder of his senior season with a lacerated spleen.

Lee finished his senior season with 442 receiving yards with 10 TDs on 26 catches (17.0 ypc). He also has 46 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks on the defensive side of the ball.

Orion defeated Rockridge 31-0 to close out their regular season 9-0. They’ll face off with Fieldcrest in the Illinois State Playoffs this week.

Josiah Miamen, TE

Hometown: Dunlap, IL (Dunlap)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 225
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Fellow tight end commit Josiah Miamen hauled in 4 catches for 102 yards last week, but failed to find the end zone. Dunlap came away with a 36-34 victory over Morton.

Miamen has 442 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns on 23 catches for an average of 1935 yards per reception this year. Dunlap closes out their regular season 7-2. They’ll take on Yorkville in the Illinois State Playoffs this week.

Jack Campbell, LB

Hometown: Cedar Falls, IA (Cedar Falls)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 210
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Jack Campbell closed out his regular season much like he’s played all year. He finished with 15 tackles, including one for loss, as Cedar Falls defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie 28-14.

Campbell finishes his senior regular season with 106 tackles , 10.5 TFL and 5 sacks. Cedar Falls finishes undefeated at 9-0. They’ll take on Indianola in the first round of the Iowa State Playoffs this week.

Jestin Jacobs, LB

Hometown: Clayton, OH (Northmont)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 205
Stars: 247 Sports - 4 Rivals - 3

Fellow linebacker commit Jestin Jacobs notched 5 tackles and a sack as Northmont came away with a 38-21 victory over Springboro last week. Jacobs also got things done on the offensive side of the ball, finishing with 80 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on 13 carries.

Here’s a look at the highlights:

On the season, Jacobs now has 28 tackles, 4 sacks and a fumble recovery on defense.

The win moves Northmont to 8-1 on the season. They’ll close out their regular season at Miamisburg this week.

Sebastian Castro, S

Hometown: Oak Lawn, IL (Richards)
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 198
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Safety commit Sebastian Castro had another impressive outing for Richards this week. He finished with 5 tackles and a pair of passes broken up as Richards defeated Eisenhower 41-6.

Here’s a look at the highlights.

On the season Castro now has 42 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss, a pair of interceptions and 4 forced fumbles. On offense, he’s over 300 yards rushing with 7 touchdowns.

Richards finishes their regular season undefeated at 9-0. They’ll take on Rock Island in the first round of the Illinois State Playoffs this week.

Dane Belton, CB/S

Hometown: Tampa, FL (Jesuit)
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 185
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Fellow defensive back commit Dane Belton also had another solid outing. He finished with 3 tackles and a pass broken up, but it wasn’t enough as Jesuit fell 14-6 to Clearwater Central Catholic.

Here’s a look at the highlights, including a 45-yard punt return for a touchdown that was apparently called back for some reason.

Belton now has 32 tackles, 3 passes defended and a pair of interceptions through 8 games this season. Jesuit (7-1) will host Middleton this week.

Jake Karchinski, DE

Hometown: De Pere, WI (West De Pere)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 245
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Defensive end commit Jake Karchinski got his playoff run started off right last week. He contributed 5 tackles, including 1 for loss as West De Pere defeated Antigo 52-14.

Karchinski now has 42 tackles, 13 TFL and 6.5 sacks as well as a fumble recovery. West De Pere (10-0) advances to take on Freedom in the second round this week.

Jalen Hunt, DE

Hometown: Belleville, MI (Belleville)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 250
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 Rivals - 3

Finally, Jalen Hunt had a big game for Belleville in the KLAA Championship Game last week. He finished with 5 tackles, 4 of which were for loss as Bellevill defeated Brighton 32-17.

Belleville (9-0) will take on Dearborn in the first round of the Michigan State Playoffs this week.


Lineman Notes

Offensive line commit Justin Britt remains sidelined with his torn ACL. Warren Central was off this week as they prepare for their Indiana State Playoff run beginning this week.

OL commit Noah Fenske helped New Hampton close out their season on a high note. He contributed 7 tackles and 2 TFL on defense as New Hampton defeated Hampton-Dumont 8-0.

New Hampton finishes their season 3-6.

Elsewhere, offensive lineman Ezra Miller and Ridge View also closed out their season with a W. They defeated IKM-Manning 24-19 last week. Here are the highlights.

Ridge View finishes the year 3-6.

And finally, lineman Tyler Endres and Norwalk closed out the regular season with a 5th consecutive win as they took down Gilbert 35-21.

Here are the highlights:

Norwalk finishes the regular season 6-3. They’ll take on Spencer this week in the first round of the Iowa State Playoffs.
