You know the rules by now... I’m going to ramble on about something in Iowa sports only to trick you into giving me questions for tomorrow’s mailbag. You can throw them in the comments section or send them directly to me on Twitter (@JerryScherwin) or use the hashtag #HelloJerry.
I don’t want to toot my own horn, but many are saying that my last solicitation post was a good luck charm of sorts for Fran McCaffery. For those that don’t remember (or don’t want to click that link) I planted my flag in the sand by deciding to hold McCaffery and company responsible starting with their game against the Fighting Illini.
I wanted to see how this team would respond to major adversity.
At first, it looked bleak. VERY BLEAK.
Iowa might lose by 30 tonight. Zero energy. Nobody cares. Where is the fire? Where’s the leadership? SOMEONE GET PISSED ABOUT THIS! #Hawkeyes

But then Luka Garza became the energetic spirit animal I was clamoring for:
In Champaign, Garza scored 17 of his 19 points after halftime, including a stretch of eight straight that turned the game in Iowa’s favor. https://t.co/kgBAzTqkMH

In our Slack chat and on the internet, I’ve been a little skeptical of Garza. I’ve questioned his athletic ability, his feet, his running ability and how “strong” he is.
But he sprouted in that second half. He became the player we thought we were getting to start this season. Sometimes it just takes a while to make a leap like that.
It couldn’t have come at better time.
Good luck Rutgers.
