Iowa Football Recruiting: Class of 2018 Commitment Week 3 Performance Recap

Iowa Football was back in action on Saturday. Meanwhile, the commits in the Hawkeyes’ class of 2018 hit the gridiron on Thursday and Friday. Let’s take a look at how they fared.

Tyrone Tracy had another spectacular week in the high school ranks.

Henry Geil

Pos: RB

Hometown: Green Bay, Wisconsin

Ht: 6’

Wt: 211 lbs

Geil has been off to a hot start so far this season, but things didn’t go so well last Thursday. Geil’s Preble Hornets suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Southwest Fighting Trojans 45-28. Geil finished 18 carries for 88 yards, but failed to find the endzone for the first time this season.

The loss moves Preble to 2-1. On the season, Geil has 446 rushing yards on 78 carries (5.7 yards per carry) with 3 rushing touchdowns. He also has 2 catches for 34 yards.

With the game out of the way on Thursday evening, Geil made the trek to Iowa City to watch the Hawkeyes take down Wyoming 24-3 on Saturday.

Jack Plumb

Pos: TE/OT

Hometown: Green Bay, Wisconsin

Ht: 6’8”

Wt: 245 lbs

Plumb’s Bay Port Pirates also got back to work on Thursday evening. Plumb again went without a catch (weekly reminder that although he is listed as a TE, he is an OT who can catch the rock) this week as the Pirates moved to 3-0 with a 56-14 win over Manitowoc.

Like Geil, Plumb used the Thursday game to make the trip to Iowa City this weekend. He’s pictured below in the black hat on the far left. Geil is in the black, second to the right. The two 2018 commits are joined by Tyler Linderbaum of Solon and a couple 2019 commits.

Tyrone Tracy

Pos: ATH

Hometown: Indianapolis, Indiana

Ht: 6’

Wt: 185 lbs

The eldest Tracy commit had perhaps the best performance of the week Friday night (again). His Decatur Central Hawks took down Whiteland 55-28 and Tracy was a major reason for the win. He finished with 17 carries for 194 yards and 2 TDs, including an 85-yarder. He also hauled in 1 catch for a 65-yard TD.

Here’s a look at his highlights from week 3:

Tyrone’s cousing and 2019 commit Larry Tracy finished with 11 tackles and 2 PBUs defensively for the Hawks.

On the season, Tracy now has 415 rushing yards and 3 TDs on 39 carries at a gawdy 10.6 yards per carry. He also has 315 receiving yards and 3 TDs on 16 catches for an average of 19.7 yards per catch.

Sign. Me. Up.

Anthony Torres

Pos: TE

Hometown: Mishawaka, Indiana

Ht: 6’6”

Wt: 235 lbs

Torres remained sidelined with an injury this week. In his absence, his Penn High teammates moved to 2-1 with a 38-0 win over Brother Rice. We’ll continue to monitor Torres and update you if we learn anything new regarding his injury.

DJ Johnson

Pos: DB

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Ht: 6’

Wt: 170 lbs

After pulling off upsets in each of the first two weeks, Johnson and his North Central team faced off with the newest member of the class of 2018, Julius Brents, and Warren Central Friday night. This time, there wasn’t enough magic to continue the streak as Warren Central came away with a 42-21 victory.

Johnson had one catch for 6 yards on offense. Defensively, he and the North Central secondary did a solid job of holding Warren Central’s star WR (and top 2019 Hawkeye target) David Bell in check. Bell finished with only 55 yards on 2 catches and Warren Central tallied only 158 total passing yards.

The loss drops North Central to 2-1 on the season.

Julius Brents

Pos: DB

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Ht: 6’2

Wt: 180 lbs

Much like Anthony Torres, the newest member of Iowa’s class of 2018 has spent all of his senior season sidelined with a knee injury. Now that he’s in the fold, we’ll keep you updated as we learn more about his status.

Terry Roberts

Pos: DB

Hometown: Erie, PA

Ht: 5’10”

Wt: 169 lbs

Iowa’s third defensive back commit, Terry Roberts, was back in action Friday as Cathedral Prep took on Erie High. Roberts finished with 4 catches for 83 yards and a TD on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, he didn’t record any tackles, but added a pass breakup as Cathedral dispensed of Erie 38-0.

Through 2 weeks, Roberts has 5 catches for 109 yards (21.8 yards per catch) and 1 TD. He’s also got an interception returned for a TD.

Samson Evans

Pos: ATH

Hometown: Crystal Lake, IL

Ht: 6’1”

Wt: 190 lbs

Samson Evans and fellow Hawkeye commit Jeff Jenkins took on the Huntley Red Raiders Friday and it was the Evans show from the outset. The game opened with a 70-yard TD run by Evans, and Prairie Ridge never really looked back.

Evans finished with 245 rushing yards on 29 carries and five (FIVE!) touchdown runs. He was 4-7 passing for 113 yards. That takes his season totals through two weeks to 362 rushing yards and 6 TDs on 54 carries for an average of 6.7 yards per carry. He has thrown for 121 yards on 5-11 passing (11 yards per attempt and 45% completion percentage).

Prairie Ridge moves to 2-0 and is ranked 2nd in the state of Illinois.

Dillon Doyle

Pos: LB

Hometown: Iowa City, IA

Ht: 6’3”

Wt: 215 lbs

Doyle and the Iowa City West Trojans moved to 2-0 with a lopsided victory over Muscatine Friday night 51-3. Doyle had a 16-yard TD catch on the offensive side of the ball. He also added 3 tackles.

On the season, that takes Doyle to 86 receiving yards and 1 TD on 3 receptions. Defensively, he has 9 tackles and a TFL.
