Iowa’s very own Josey Jewell has earned Big Ten defensive player of the week honors for his performance against Wyoming over the weekend.

Yes, of course, it's @HawkeyeFootball's Josey Jewell. pic.twitter.com/kTt69keI2V
On top of the B1G honor, he was named the Walter Camp football player of the week.

Jewell led Iowa with 14 tackles, 7 of which were solo stops. The senior linebacker also had 2.5 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and one pass break-up. The 14 tackles and 2 sacks tie for his career best in a single game. The Decorah native was the catalyst for a defense that allowed just three points against an admirable offense in the season-opener. Wyoming converted just 6 of 20 third downs, and Jewell was a big part of that.
This is somehow the first time Jewell has earned B1G DPOW honors. It’s also his first Walter Camp nod. Something tells me he’ll be making these lists again.
