NCAA Football Week 5 Game Times and TV Schedule

Week 5 of the college football season is underway. Here’s a look at the weekend’s full slate of games and how to watch.

NCAA Football: Clemson at Louisville
The Clemson Tigers are set for another big time showdown. This time they’ll be at #12 Virginia Tech.

If you’re like me, not much stands out about last weekend’s slate of games other than the thriller we witnessed in Iowa City. It didn’t turn out the way we all hoped, but it was entertainment at its finest. Hopefully we get more of that this week, just not of the Hawkeye variety. Let’s take a look at what’s on the docket.

Thursday

Things actually got kicked off last night. There was only one game and it involved those guys in Ames. If you were like me, you took a few minutes to tune in, hoping they would put on a decent showing so that perhaps the next time we beat them on the road we won’t lose votes in the polls. Alas, we rooted to no avail. And not for very long. The game was a snoozer and ISU lost 17-7 to Texas, further showing us the Iowa game is their season. How do you muster only 7 points in a Big 12 game? Ugh.

Friday

Things really get going tonight. Despite having a Memphis at Georgia State matchup which was originally scheduled for this evening cancelled, we still have a full docket of 4 games on the night. At 6pm on ESPN, you can watch #14 Miami at Duke. If you’re a glutton for Schadenfreude, Nebraska is at Illinois at 7 over on FS1. Yuck.

For some reason, BYU is at Utah State at 7pm CT as well. I guess they don’t work a full day on Fridays in Utah? That’s on CBS Sports Network if you’re feeling it. I’m not. The real gem comes at 9:30 CT on ESPN. #5 USC is at #16 Washington State in what should be a lot of fun for a Friday night game.

Saturday

Saturday is full of games that could be OK or could be pretty boring with a couple potentially really good matchups sprinkled in. The early slate, starting at the usual time of 11am CT, has Vandy at #21 Florida on ESPN. You can watch Houston and Temple on ESPNU and North Carolina at Georgia Tech on ESPN2.

FS1 has Maryland at Minnesota. Surprisingly, there is no 11am game listed on BTN as the other Big Ten game - Northwestern at #10 Wisconsin - is on ABC.

In the afternoon slot starting at 2:30, BTN gets into the action with Indiana at #4 Penn State. CBS has what looks like a decent showdown between #7 Georgia and Tennessee from Knoxville. EPSN2 has Baylor at Kansas State and ESPNU is showing Navy at Tulsa if you get desperate in a commercial break. ABC has 0-2 Florida State at 4-0 Wake Forest. Didn’t expect to ever type that.

At 3pm we get the Hawkeyes at Michigan State. That’s on FOX and we’ll have full details on how to watch, etc. later in the week. Also at 3 is UCONN at SMU on ESPN News. At 4pm CT Notre Dame hosts Miami of Ohio on NBC Sports Network. Sure.

NCAA Football: Auburn at Clemson
Auburn’s lone loss on the year came at the hands of Clemson. That has also been their lone test. They face another against #24 Mississippi State Saturday.
Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

The evening slate kicks off at 5pm CT with a good looking matchup featuring #24 Mississippi State at #13 Auburn on ESPN. At 6, you can watch #25 LSU destroy Troy on ESPNU. Just remember that no matter how bad it looks, the SEC plays the toughest schedules in the land. ESPN2 is showing Memphis at UCF in that time slot.

At 6:30 CT, #11 OSU will be executing Rutgers on BTN. Get there early or you’ll miss it. South Carolina is at Texas A&M on the SEC Network. At 7, you have #15 Oklahoma State at Texas Tech. There may be 15 passing touchdowns in that one. ABC is showing what should be a really good matchup with #2 Clemson at #12 Virginia Tech.

But wait, there’s more! ESPN has an 8pm kick featuring Ole Miss at #1 Alabama, because why not start a game at 9pm in the east? The after party gets started at 9:30 CT with San Jose State at UNLV on ESPNU, Colorado at UCLA on ESPN2 and Cal at Oregon on FS1.

And that’s that for week 5 matchups. Here is a full listing of games and how to watch. This is America, so times are CENTRAL.

On the beer side of things, I’m going with one of my favorites. It’s already in the fridge and it fits in nicely here. Bell’s Two Hearted. It’s brewed in Michigan and we’re looking at a Michigan State matchup this week. And it’s name, Two Hearted, nicely summarizes my current state. My heart was broken in two last week and this week is here to mend it. I hope. Happy drinking and Go Hawks!
