Another week of NFL preseason football, another solid showing by your former Hawkeyes looking to make careers for themselves playing the greatest sport on the planet.
Here’s how some of the high-profile Hawkeyes in the NFL fared during Week 2 of the 2017 NFL Preseason.
Riley McCarron, WR, Houston Texans
McCarron hauled in three catches for an underwhelming 6 yards against the Patriots this past week. He also returned a kick for 17 yards. Though the final stat line was what you might call “less-than-impressive," the fact that he has been targeted in consecutive weeks tells you someone involved in that offense sees something in him.
Marshall Koehn, K, Minnesota Vikings
Koehn is involved in a battle for a roster spot with veteran Kai Forbath. Against the Seahawks this past weekend, Koehn hit a 29-yard field goal and made the only extra point he attempted.
Jaleel Johnson, DT, Minnesota Vikings
Johnson led the Vikings in tackles against the Seahawks with four. It was the second week in a row where he made a significant impact of some sort. At this point, I think it’s safe to say he’ll make the team and get plenty of playing time as a rookie.
Greg Mabin, CB, Buffalo Bills
Mabin picked off one pass, defended another and made two tackles against the Eagles. He’s a good bet to make the team on a Buffalo squad desperately in need of depth in their defensive backfield.
Desmond King, Defensive Back, Los Angeles Chargers
King looked really good for the second week in a row, this time logging a sack, two tackles and defending a pass against the Saints. He also returned a kickoff for 20 yards. He looks like he fits in as well as any rookie so far this preseason, and I don’t think it’s crazy at this point to consider him a dark horse candidate for Defensive Rookie of the Year if he can carry over his performance into the regular season.

Henry Krieger-Coble, Tight End, Indianapolis Colts
HKC caught just one pass against the Cowboys for a gain of three yards. Be that as it may, he’s getting looks. Looking at the Colts’ depth chart, he’s got a good shot of making the team.
Anthony Hitchens, Linebacker, Dallas Cowboys
Hitchens assisted on two tackles against the Colts. He’ll likely start the season as Dallas’ starting middle linebacker, but a talented depth chart behind him will force him to produce consistently.
Louis Trinca-Pasat, Defensive Tackle, Los Angeles Rams
LTP had a couple of tackles. He should earn some playing time alongside one of the most talented defensive front fours in the NFL.
C.J. Beathard & George Kittle, Quarterback and Tight End, San Francisco 49ers
I’m combining these two, because awesomeness. Yeah, yeah — Beathard went 7 of 12 for 110 yards and Kittle caught three balls for 33 yards. But the best part of the game against the Broncos for both players was the 29-yard pass, catch and run for a touchdown seen here:
