It’s time to start this regional off on the right foot!

It’s time for regionals! The Hawkeyes are in Houston trying to extend their season, and they’ll get a chance to start off on the right foot against the Cougars in their first game tonight. The winner will take on the victor of Texas A&M vs. Baylor, which is set to take place today at 2 p.m. CT.

Iowa will be tested tonight as they go up against the AAC Pitcher of the Year in Trey Cumbie. Cumbie went 10-1 with a 1.88 ERA this year in 14 starts, and batters have not fared well against him - they’ve hit him to the tune of a .226 average this season. The Hawkeyes will send Ryan Erickson to the mound against Houston instead of Nick Gallagher. Erickson is 3-3 with a 2.96 ERA in 15 appearances (11 starts) on the year and is coming off the best start of his career where he blanked Nebraska over 7.2 innings.

Take a look at our complete preview of the Houston Regional to learn a bit more about the Cougars (as well as the Bears and Aggies).

If you plan on being in the Houston area today for the game, the IOWA Club is hosting a Hawk Huddle so you should stop by!
