I grew up involved in wrestling on the East Coast, so Iowa Wrestling and Dan Gable were household names in my life.

Once I moved to Nebraska in the early 2000s, the Husker fanbase slowly began to get on my nerves, thanks to their fish-bowl mentality, unrealistic expectations and an overall ignorance in regard to what Nebraska football had become. One thing that sticks out was how they viewed and continue to view Iowa as a little brother, not worthy of being considered a rival simply because they shared a border. Like an outsider sympathizing with the Red Sox against the Yankees, I was drawn to Iowa.

Additionally, some of the best all around people and closest friends I’ve met since moving to the Midwest are Iowa fans, so it was easy for me to root for the Hawkeyes.
