Commitment Post: Hawkeyes Land Tyrone Tracy
Perhaps one of the most dynamic recruits in Iowa’s class of 2018, Tyrone Tracy brings a ton of versatility to the Iowa offense. He also brings a lot of personality. One of the early members of the class, committing back in April, Tracy has helped the staff recruit and establish a budding pipeline from the Indianapolis metro area to Iowa City.
Today, after nearly 8 months of being committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes, things became official as Tracy signed his national letter of intent.

Tracy was utilized in a variety of ways on his Decatur Central High School team. He lined up at running back, but was also split out as a wide receiver. Conventional wisdom says the 6’, 187 lb Tracy will be primarily a receiver for the Hawkeyes. He has good top-end speed and excellent ball skills. He’s a dynamic playmaker in space, which the Iowa offense can always use more of.
It’s still plausible he could stay at RB given his frame and the ease with which coach Doyle could throw on another 20 pounds, but the depth chart is much more unproven at the WR spot. The playmaking ability of Tracy is something that could earn him early playing time.
Tracy is one of a pair of WR commits in the class of 2018, joining Florida product Calvin Lockett. While the Hawkeyes have a slew of young receivers on the roster, none have really proven themselves beyond Ihmir Smith-Marsette.
Tracy, while showing good top-end speed, has the quickness and agility to be a very good slot receiver. He’ll likely be behind senior-to-be Nick Easley, but if he can prove his blocking ability and learn the playbook, he should see his way onto the field early.
As noted above, Tracy is part of a convoy from the Indianapolis area head to Iowa City. He’ll be joined by defensive backs DJ Johnson and Julius Brents in this class, but the commits and the staff are hoping to add to that next year.
Tracy already has a cousin, Larry Tracy, committed to join in the class of 2019 as a defensive back. The staff is also hoping to add big time commits in the class from WR David Bell and OL Justin Britt. Oh, and Tyrone has a pair of younger brothers who both may be division 1 talents as well.
The pipeline seems to have begun flowing.
Here’s a look at the full list of commitments in the class of 2018.
