Iowa Football Recruiting: Class of 2018 Season Performance Recap

The high school careers are now over for all the commits in Iowa’s class of 2018. We look back at how all the future Hawkeyes performed in their senior campaigns.

Now that the last of the class of 2018 commits has finished their season, it’s time to take a look back at how everyone performed. As in the past, this is not an exhaustive live but rather some numbers for commits who play the skill positions (or perhaps more accurately, the positions where stats tend to be accumulated).

Henry Geil

Pos: RB

Hometown: Green Bay, Wisconsin

Ht: 6’

Wt: 211 lbs

Running back commit Henry Geil finished his senior season with 1,479 yards and 16 touchdowns on 224 carries (6.6 YPC), His Green Bay Preble team finished the year 6-4.

Jack Plumb

Pos: TE/OT

Hometown: Green Bay, Wisconsin

Ht: 6’8”

Wt: 245 lbs

Offensive tackle commit Jack Plumb finished his senior season with 5 catches for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns. His Bay Port team finished with an 11-1 record.

Tyrone Tracy

Pos: ATH

Hometown: Indianapolis, Indiana

Ht: 6’

Wt: 185 lbs

WR commit Tyrone Tracy finished with one of the more impressive stat lines of the group. Playing both RB and WR for his Decatur Central team, Tracy accumulated more than 2,500 yards and 29 total TDs. He finished with 1,412 rushing yards and 13 TDs on 123 carries (11.5 YPC) and another 1,132 receiving yards and 16 TDs on 54 catches (21.0 YPC). Those numbers were rewarded with Tracy being recognized as the Gatorade Player of the Year in Indiana. Decatur Central finished the year 10-2.

DJ Johnson

Pos: DB

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Ht: 6’

Wt: 170 lbs

Cornerback D.J. Johnson finished his senior campaign with 36 tackles and 2 interceptions as his North Central team ended the year 3-7.

Here are his senior season highlights.

Julius Brents

Pos: DB

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Ht: 6’2

Wt: 180 lbs

Safety Julius Brents missed a portion of his senior campaign due to a knee injury. That seems to have healed well and Brents finished out the season strong. On the year he ended with 17 tackles and an interception. His Warren Central team ended the season 7-4.

Terry Roberts

Pos: DB

Hometown: Erie, PA

Ht: 5’10”

Wt: 169 lbs

Defensive back commit Terry Roberts played both ways on his state championship-winning Cathedral Prep team this year. He ended the season with 1,236 yards and 16 touchdowns on 42 catches (29.4 YPC). On defense, he had 23 tackles and 5 interceptions. Cathedral Prep finishes the year 14-0 with their second straight state championship.

Samson Evans

Pos: RB

Hometown: Crystal Lake, IL

Ht: 6’1”

Wt: 190 lbs

Samson Evans has been listed here as a wide receiver commit for most of the season. The high school QB is now reportedly starting his Iowa career at running back. That’s fitting for a player who ended his senior season with 2,101 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns on 268 carries (7.8 YPC) and 605 yards and 8 more touchdowns passing. Prairie Ridge finishes the year unbeaten at 15-0 on the year.

Evans finished his high school career with nearly 6,400 rushing yards, good enough for 7th all time in the state of Illinois, and 112 rushing TDs, 3rd best all time in the state. Like Tracy in Indiana, Evans was recently named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Illinois.

Dillon Doyle

Pos: LB

Hometown: Iowa City, IA

Ht: 6’3”

Wt: 215 lbs

Linebacker commit Dillon Doyle finished out his senior year with an unfortunate loss in the 4A Iowa State Championship game to recent Iowa commit John Waggoner and Dowling Catholic for the second season in a row. Doyle ended the season with 73 tackles and 9.5 TFL on defense. He added 242 yards and 4 touchdowns on 19 catches (12.7YPC) on the offensive side of the ball. Iowa City West finished the season 12-1.
