As we near the end of November, only a couple members of Iowa’s recruiting class of 2018 are still playing in their respective state playoffs. We’ll update you with final season statistics when all players have finished their seasons. In the meantime, here’s a look at how those still playing performed last week.

Anthony Torres

Pos: TE

Hometown: Mishawaka, Indiana

Ht: 6’6”

Wt: 235 lbs

Torres remains out for the season with an injury, but that didn’t stop his Mishawaka Penn team from continuing their run. Penn beat Carmel 34-7 last week and it now 13-1 on the year. They advance to take on Ben Davis in Lucas Oil Stadium this Saturday for a chance at the Indiana 6A State Championship.

Terry Roberts

Pos: DB

Hometown: Erie, PA

Ht: 5’10”

Wt: 169 lbs

Defensive back commit Terry Roberts and Cathedral Prep had a bye this week. They will face off with Thomas Jefferson on November 24th on Friday. You can see their playoff bracket here.

Samson Evans

Pos: ATH

Hometown: Crystal Lake, IL

Ht: 6’1”

Wt: 190 lbs

Wide receiver commit Samson Evans and teammate Jeff Jenkins, am offensive line commit, continued their run at back-to-back state championships last week with a 42-21 victory over Hoffman Estates. Evans, who plays QB in a run-oriented offense, finished with a whopping 327 rushing yards and a pair of TDs on 34 carries (9.6 YPC).

Here’s a look at one of those touchdown runs.

In addition to the rushing, Evans provided a spark on special teams as both kick and punt returner. Here’s a look at a very nice punt return.

On the year, Evans now has 1,946 rushing yards on 233 carries (8.4 YPC) and 38 total TDs. The win moves Prairie Ridge to 14-0 on the year. They advance to the 6A State Championship game on Saturday against Nazareth Academy (12-1) in DeKalb. You can see the full playoff bracket here.

Dillon Doyle

Pos: LB

Hometown: Iowa City, IA

Ht: 6’3”

Wt: 215 lbs

Linebacker commit Dillon Doyle and Iowa City West had a date with Dowling Catholic in the 4A state championship game last week and the Trojans came up short for the second year in a row as Dowling won 35-21. Doyle had 4 tackles and a 7 yard reception in the losing effort.

Here’s a look at the highlights.

The loss drops West High to 12-1 on the year. Doyle finishes his senior season with 73 tackles, 9.5 for loss, on defense. On the offensive side of the ball, he finishes with 19 catches for 242 yards and 4 TDs for an average of 12.7 yards per catch.
