Iowa Football Recruiting: Class of 2018 Commit Performance Recap, Week 11

As high schools around the country see their seasons come to an end, several Hawkeye commits in the class of 2018 are stepping their game up to help their teams advance in the playoffs.

Jack Plumb

Pos: TE/OT

Hometown: Green Bay, Wisconsin

Ht: 6’8”

Wt: 245 lbs

Offensive tackle commit Jack Plumb didn’t snag any catches this week, but saw his Bay Port team pull out a wild win. Bay Port outlasted Stevens Point 57-51 in quadruple overtime Friday. The win came in the second round of the Wisconsin playoffs. Bay Port moves to 11-0 on the year with the win and will advance to face off with Appleton North this week. Tyrone Tracy

Pos: ATH

Hometown: Indianapolis, Indiana

Ht: 6’

Wt: 185 lbs

Tyrone Tracy Jr. continues to put on a show in his final high school season. He had another impressive game last week as Decatur Central took down Arsenal Tech 47-8. Tracy finished with 53 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 8 carries (6.63 YPC) and 75 receiving yards on only two catches (37.5 YPC), but both catches went for touchdowns.

Here’s a look at Tracy’s highlights from the matchup.

Through 11 games this yea (including the two playoff games), Tracy now 1,320 rushing yards and 12 TDs on 118 carries for an average of 11.2 yards per carry. He has also added 1,029 receiving yards and 15 TD receptions on 49 catches for an average of 21.0 yards per catch.

The win moves Decatur Central to 10-1 on the year. They advance to take on a very tough Cathedral team this week. You can see the full bracket here.

DJ Johnson

Pos: DB

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Ht: 6’

Wt: 170 lbs

Cornerback D.J. Johnson finished 5 tackles in North Central’s 42-21 playoff loss to Pike last week. Johnson finishes his senior season with 36 tackles, 5.5 TFL, and 2 interceptions. North Central closes out the year with a record of 3-7. The completion of Johnson’s season will allow him to make a return visit to Iowa City for the Hawkeyes’ matchup with Ohio State this weekend.

Julius Brents

Pos: DB

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Ht: 6’2

Wt: 180 lbs

Safety Julius Brents and Warren Central fared a bit better. They took home a 41-16 win over Lawrence North last week. Since returning from a knee injury early in the year, Brents has recorded 13 tackles and an interception. The win moves Warren Central to 7-3 on the year and advances them to the second round where they will take on Ben Davis. Warren Central lost the previous meeting between the two schools 45-16. Anthony Torres

Pos: TE

Hometown: Mishawaka, Indiana

Ht: 6’6”

Wt: 235 lbs

Anthony Torres, who remains out due to an undisclosed injury, saw his Mishawaka Penn team get some revenge against Valpraiso (the only team to beat them on the season) Friday. Penn won the rematch 13-0 to move to 9-1 on the year. They advance to take on Warsaw this week. Once again, here’s a look at the full 6A bracket.

Terry Roberts

Pos: DB

Hometown: Erie, PA

Ht: 5’10”

Wt: 169 lbs

Defensive back commit Terry Roberts, who is utilized primarily as a receiver at Cathedral Prep, hauled in 4 catches for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns last week. Cathedral defeated Canisius 31-20 to close out the regular season.

Here’s a look at Roberts’ highlights.

On the year, Roberts now has 868 yards and 12 touchdowns on 28 catches for an average of 31 yards per reception. On the defensive side of the ball, he has 6 tackles and 2 interceptions. Cathedral finishes the season undefeated at 10-0.

Samson Evans

Pos: ATH

Hometown: Crystal Lake, IL

Ht: 6’1”

Wt: 190 lbs

Wide receiver commit Samson Evans, who mans the quarterback spot for Prairie Ridge High School, had another impressive night running the football. He finished with 124 rushing yards on 17 carries (7.3 YPC) and five touchdowns as Prairie Ridge took down Crystal Lake Central 61-24.

On the year, Evans has 1,285 yards and 27 TDs. The win pushes Prairie Ridge to 10-0 on the year and advances them to the second round of the playoff where they will take on Cary-Grove. Prairie Ridge won the previous meeting in a 7-6 slugfest. You can see the full playoff bracket here.

Dillon Doyle

Pos: LB

Hometown: Iowa City, IA

Ht: 6’3”

Wt: 215 lbs

Linebacker Dillon Doyle had a big game in Iowa City West’s first round playoff matchup. He finished with 7 tackles and 2 sacks and added 28 receiving yards and a TD on 3 catches (9.3 YPC), as well as a 1-yard rushing touchdown as West pummeled Cedar Rapids Washington 49-7.

Here’s a look at the highlights.

On the season, Doyle now has 55 tackles and 8 TFL on defense, a well as 226 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns on 16 catches (14.1 YPC) and the lone rushing TD on offense. The win moves West High to 10-0 on the year. They advance to take on Cedar Falls in the second round of the playoffs this Friday. The full playoff bracket can be found here.
