Iowa Basketball Class of 2018 Commit CJ Fredrick Offered Scholarship

The scholarship became available after the departure of Christian Williams.

After the Iowa Athletic Department announced that Christian Williams would be departing the basketball program prior to the season, one of the next questions for Fran McCaffery and Co. was who they chose to give the vacant scholarship - would they give it to Connor McCaffery, who’s already on the team, or someone down the line?

It didn’t take long for McCaffery to figure it out, as he called Class of 2018 guard CJ Fredrick last night to offer him the open spot.

The 6’4” shooting guard out of Kentucky, who recently was bumped up to a 3-star recruit by 247sports, previously committed to the Hawkeyes as a walk-on despite offers from Indiana, Penn State, and Xavier. He also received plenty of interest from Butler.

The move just about wraps up any moves of importance that the basketball team will make in the Class of 2018, as they’re now without any available scholarships once again, barring another transfer. Joe Wieskamp, a forward out of Muscatine, is taking the scholarship left by Iowa’s only graduating senior, Dom Uhl.

Congratulations to Fredrick on earning a scholarship, and we can’t wait to see him don the black and gold in future seasons!
