Iowa Football Recruiting: Class of 2018 Commitment Week 8 Performance Recap

It was another solid week of performances for the Hawkeyes’ class of 2018 commitments. We recap how they looked in week 8 of the high school season.

Tyrone Tracy is proving to be an incredibly versatile athlete this season at Decatur Central.

Henry Geil

Pos: RB

Hometown: Green Bay, Wisconsin

Ht: 6’

Wt: 211 lbs

After being held in check a week ago, Henry Geil bounced back in a big way Friday. Geil finished with 142 yards on 24 carries as Preble took home a 17-14 win over Pulaski. Here’s a look at the highlights from last week’s game.

Through 8 games on the season season, Geil now has has 1,270 yards and 14 touchdowns on 190 carries (6.7 YPC). The win moved Preble to 6-2 on the year. They will face off with Bay Port and fellow Hawkeye commit Jack Plumb next week. Here’s a look at Geil’s full season highlights to-date.

Jack Plumb

Pos: TE/OT

Hometown: Green Bay, Wisconsin

Ht: 6’8”

Wt: 245 lbs

Speaking of Jack Plumb and Bay Port, they put another notch in the win column last week with a 42-6 win over De Pere Friday. Plumb was once again held without a catch, instead serving almost exclusively as a blocker (as Iowa intends to use him). The win takes Bay Port to 8-0 heading into their showdown with Geil’s Preble team this week.

Tyrone Tracy

Pos: ATH

Hometown: Indianapolis, Indiana

Ht: 6’

Wt: 185 lbs

Similar to Geil, WR commit Tyrone Tracy had a bounce back game this week. After being held under 100 yards a week ago, Tracy finished with 102 rushing yards and a 64-yard TD on just 8 carries Friday. He also added a nice 69 yards on 3 catches as Decatur Central took down top-ranked Roncalli 49-45. Here’s a look at the highlights from the matchup.

On the year, Tracy now has 819 rushing yards and 6 TDS on 90 carries for an average of 9.1 yards per carry. He also has 699 receiving yards and 10 TDs on 36 catches (19.4 yards per catch) for Decatur Central, which moved to 7-1 with the win and a #3 ranking in class 5A. The Hawks will take on Lawrence Community this week.

DJ Johnson

Pos: DB

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Ht: 6’

Wt: 170 lbs

Cornerback commit DJ Johnson had a very productive game last week finishing with 6 tackles, a pass defended and a fumble recovery. Unfortunately, the effort came in a 45-28 loss for North Central at the hands of Pike. On the year, Johnson now has 26 tackles, 2 interceptions and 5 pass breakups. The loss drops North Central 3-5. Johnson and North Central will have their hands full this week as they take on Ben Davis and Indiana commit Reese Taylor.

Julius Brents

Pos: DB

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Ht: 6’2

Wt: 180 lbs

Fellow Indianapolis defensive back Julius Brents also had a really great week. He finished 8 tackles and a pass breakup. Unlike like Johnson, Brents’ effort came in a victory as Warren Central took down Carmel 35-14 on Friday. In just 4 games this year (he missed time early due to injury), Brents now has 11 tackles and 1 interception. The win moved Warren Central 5-3 on the year. They will take on a River Rouge team from Michigan this week.

Anthony Torres

Pos: TE

Hometown: Mishawaka, Indiana

Ht: 6’6”

Wt: 235 lbs

We got an injury update on Te commit Anthony Torres this week courtesy of Hawkeye Report. Torres confirmed for Blair Sanderson of HR that he is out for the season due to an injury he wouldn’t expand on. He is, however, believed to be in good shape to be helathy when he arrives in Iowa City this January.

In Torres’ absense his Mishawaka Penn team took home another win 47-3 over Elkhart Central. The win moves Penn to 7-1 on the year. They’ll be at cross-town rival Mishawaka High this Friday.

Terry Roberts

Pos: DB

Hometown: Erie, PA

Ht: 5’10”

Wt: 169 lbs

Pennsylvania defensive back commit Terry Roberts showed off his offensive skills last week, hauling in 4 catches for 85 yards (21.3 YPC) and a touchdown. The effort helped propel Cathedral Prep to a 33-23 win over De La Salle. Here’s a look at Roberts’ highlights.

On the year, Roberts now has 510 yards and 6 touchdown on 16 catches for a ridiculous average of 31.9 yards per reception. On the defensive side of the ball, he has 6 tackles and 2 interceptions. With the win Cathedral Prep moved to 7-0. They will take on West Toronto Prep this Friday.

Samson Evans

Pos: ATH

Hometown: Crystal Lake, IL

Ht: 6’1”

Wt: 190 lbs

WR commit Samson Evans, who plays QB for his Prairie Ridge team, was held out of Friday’s contest for precautionary reasons. Evans sustains an injury during last week’s win and Prairie Ridge didn’t require his services to dispose of Hampshire 55-14 Friday.

With the DNP Friday, Evans stays flat at 889 rushing yards and 13 TDs on the season. Prairie Ridge remains perfect on the year at 7-0. They will take on Jacobs of Algonquin, IL this week.

Dillon Doyle

Pos: LB

Hometown: Iowa City, IA

Ht: 6’3”

Wt: 215 lbs

Dillon Doyle had a really nice night defensively for Iowa City West this week. He finished with 10 tackles and 2 TFL as West beat Cedar Rapids Kennedy 34-20 on Friday. Here’s a look at his highlights.

On the year, Doyle now has 39 tackles including 5 TFL. On the offensive side of the ball, Doyle also has 161 receiving yards and 2 TDs on 11 catches(14.6 YPC). The win moves West High to 7-0 on the year. They take on Linn-Mar this Friday.
