Crootin’: Wisconsin Punter Ryan Gersonde Commits to Iowa Football

PUNTING IS WINNING AND NOW WE HAVE A PUNTER ON SCHOLARSHIP.

NCAA Football: Northwestern at Iowa Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier today, I noted that Iowa had 19 commitments and the high water mark for this class was always going to be 22 commitments. I mentioned a couple of specific players to be on the lookout for, as well as a position where Iowa could use some new blood.

Well, that position is exactly what Ferentz and Co. went after, and they got themselves a braaaannnnnd newwwwww punterrrrrr!

Ryan Gersonde, a punter out of Marquette University High School in Milwaukee, WI, tweeted out earlier today that he was committing to the Hawkeyes, bringing the number of players in #Swarm17 up to 20. His commitment was teased earlier today by none other than Peyton Mansell, who has taken the spot at the head of the table once occupied by Eno Benjamin.

The 6’4,” 180 lb. punter has a two-star rating per Rivals and 247 doesn’t have a whole lot of information on him, but that’s not important. What’s important is that he is a 5-star punter per Kohl’s Kicking. FIRE EMOJIS. He took his visit to Iowa City a week ago and was offered a scholarship by the coaching staff earlier today, quickly accepting.

HERE IS HIS SENIOR HIGHLIGHT TAPE. WARNING: NSFW PUNTS

He was born in the United States and moved to Australia as a child before coming back for high school, so he learned how to punt in the land down under. That means that we’ll get some more of those rugby style punts that Coluzzi used this past season as well as some traditional punts. There’s a lot to like from this kid for sure.

Welcome aboard, Mr. Gersonde. Can’t wait to see you boom kicks inside the 5-yard line.
