CROOTIN’: Iowa Football One of Three Finalists for 2017 Linebacker Thomas Johnston

The Alabama product expects to make his announcement Wednesday

Iowa has officially made the list of three schools that are still in contention for four-star linebacker Thomas Johnston, and the Hawkeyes have to feel pretty good about their chances of landing the Spanish Fort, AL native, who is their top remaining target that will help complete their 2017 class.

It was previously assumed that while Johnston has offers from numerous schools, Iowa and Auburn were the two in the best position to land the talented athlete. However, Johnston was asked by Auburn’s coaches to commit to them as an H-Back, and that was enough to knock the Tigers out of contention for him.

Not bad company for the Hawkeyes to be in when it comes to trying to recruit a player in the South! As we (and others) have previously noted, Johnston does have family ties to the Hawkeye State, which certainly helps the cause because it’s hard for kids to go so far away from where they grew up. It looks really good, though, when you see that Iowa has already beaten out fellow Big Ten schools in Minnesota and Michigan State for him, and even southern programs such as LSU and the National Champion Clemson Tigers.

Johnston is expected to make his announcement on Wednesday.
