Whatcha Drinkin, Who Ya Watchin Week 5?

Iowa hosts Northwestern at 11am on ESPNU Saturday, who else will you be watching?

Iowa v Northwestern
Let’s watch lots of this on Saturday, hooray!

Well, we’re entering week five of the college football season and my confidence in this Iowa team is waning. Luckily, there are other games to be played and a few solid matchups to distract us from a season that could turn ugly (don’t get me wrong, it could still be a great year, but I’m growing more and more pessimistic).

Things get kicked off Thursday night with a pair of matchups, headlined by #6 Houston hosting UCONN at 7pm CT on ESPN. Texas Tech will be hosting Kansas at 7:30 on FS1 if you are looking for something to fill the commercial downtime.

Stanford v UCLA
Christian McCaffery is good at football.

On Friday, things get started late, but we get an early in the week treat as #10 Washington plays host to #7 Stanford at 8pm CT on ESPN. Just try to avoid reminiscing to the Rose Bowl when you watch Christian McCaffery do his thing. The late game is BYU hosting Toledo at 9:15 CT on ESPN2.

As we move into Saturday, there is a nice mix of complete snoozers (nice job throwing Alcorn State in there week 5 Arkansas) and some tremendous matchups. The 11am CT time slot gives us #22 Texas at OK State on ABC, Notre Dame at Syracuse on ESPN, #14 Miami (the real one) at Georgia Tech on ESPN2 and that juggernaut Iowa just dismantled over at Rutgers heading to #2 Ohio State on BTN. Of course, you can watch the Hawkeyes dominate (for the love of God, please!) Northwestern on ESPNU at 11am CT as well.

Penn State v Michigan
Jabril Peppers is also pretty good at football.

At 2:30 CT we get #11 Tennessee at #25 Georgia on CBS, North Carolina at #12 Florida State on ESPN, Illinois at #15 Nebraska on ESPN2, and Minnesota at Penn State on BTN. The game everyone will be watching is #8 Wisconsin at #4 Michigan on ABC. I remain steadfast in my belief that Wisconsin comes out of this brutal stretch in schedule with at least 2 losses. If they beat Michigan I’m ready to hand them the keys to the bus to Indy.

In the late afternoon games we get Oklahoma at #21 TCU on FOX at 4pm CT and Kentucky at #1 Alabama at 6pm CT on ESPN.

The evening games get kicked off with the other marquee matchup of the week as #3 Louisville goes to #5 Clemson on ABC. That will be a ton of fun to watch. Also at 7pm #17 MSU goes to Indiana on BTN.

The late, late games give us #24 Boise State hosting Utah State on ESPN2 at 9:15pm CT, as well as Arizona at UCLA at 9:30pm CT on ESPN.

Like I said, some fantastic matchups, but not a ton out there.

This is not me, yet.

As for what I’ll be drinking this weekend, it’ll be some top shelf bleach. Nothing but the best for those of us who want to end it all. Gimme that Clorox and keep it coming until I can’t feel anything. NDSU knocked the Hawkeyes off the rails and they did little to get back on them last weekend. The injury to MVB this week seriously makes me want to just get to basketball season. I hope I’m wrong and this team shows me something, but I’m going to be prepared for the worst. Northwestern has been a thorn in Iowa’s side for a while and nothing would be more fitting than a NW team that’s looked terrible so far figuring it out and ruining what is still a salvageable season for the Hawkeyes.

For your viewing pleasure, below is a listing of EVERY game on the docket for the weekend. Please note, this table is created by the SB Nation crew, not us, so the times listed below are EASTERN.
