Whatcha Drinkin, Who Ya Watchin? Week 3

Hate week is over in Iowa, what’s on the viewing docket for week 3?

Iowa State v Iowa
Looking for more of this come Saturday. A lot more.

Life is good. The Cy-Hawk trophy is in Iowa City for another year, the NFL is back and we are to the point in the college football season where there are actually decent matchups to watch every week for the foreseeable future. Here’s a look at the most intriguing matchups I’ll be following in week 3.

Things kick off tonight with a pair of teams pushing to join the dumpster fire that is the Big 12. Cincinnati, fresh off their win over our most hated rival, will play host to #6 Houston at 6:30 Central tonight on ESPN. That’s it for college football tonight, but the Jets and Bills will be airing on CBS at 7:25 Central.

Golden Girls: It’s got to be better than Baylor vs. Rice.

Things keep rolling tomorrow night as #21 Baylor heads over to Rice for a 7pm Central kick on ESPN. I assume that will get ugly in a hurry. I recommend finding alternatives. No other college matchups so maybe you pull in some Golden Girls from the DVR. You know your wife/girlfriend/mom/you has them on there.

Saturday has a honeypot of nice matchups. Things get started right out of the gates at 11am CST with #2 FSU at #10 Louisville on ABC. Get ya popcorn ready. That is, of course, after the Hawkeyes seal the deal against NDSU in the first quarter (that is, of course, a joke - I am in no way tempting fate or invoking some sort of jinx so stop it, just stop it right now). If you won’t be at Kinnick, you can catch that one on ESPN2.

At 2:30pm CST we get #1 Alabama travelling to #19 Ole Miss on CBS. Meanwhile, here in the Big Ten #4 Michigan will play host to Colorado on BTN and Nebraska (who is favored in this one) hosts #22 Oregon on ABC.

At 6:30pm CST we get #12 MSU at #18 Notre Dame over on NBC. Simultaneously (that means at the same time for you ISU/NU lurkers) #3 Ohio State will be taking on #14 Oklahoma on FOX. USC is at #7 Stanford at 7pm on ABC and your late game to keep an eye on is #11 out at Cal.

Savor it. Enjoy it. Go try to find more of it.

My drink of choice this weekend will likely be some Pliny the Younger from Russian River Brewing. Plenty of storylines this weekend and the name of the beer has a nice story of its own. The season is young and the beer is at least the younger of RR’s Plinys (is that how you make that plural?). Add in all the complexity and flavor and it’s a nice pairing with this weekend’s slate. Oh yeah, and that 10.25% ABV is a nice way to spend your Saturday. Just don’t drink all of it. I’m not sure when I’ll get my hands on more.

For your viewing pleasure, below is a listing of EVERY game on the docket for the weekend. Please note, this table is created by the SB Nation crew, not us, so the times listed below are EASTERN.
