You really don’t need to look any further than the scoreboard to break-down how this one unfolded. Iowa dominated this game from start to finish and Iowa State did Iowa State things and beat themselves throughout the game.
It’s a Hawkeye State. Of that, there is no doubt.
To be honest, it is tough to find anything to complain about after what took place at Kinnick Stadium tonight. Iowa held the Cyclones to 3 points and, other than the first half of the third quarter, looked sharp on offense. C.J. Beathard played an exceptional game, completing 19 of 28 passes for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns. He made several really nice throws that are virtually not teachable and, quite frankly, it’s hard to find a quarterback who can do that. He is a special player and we should all be thrilled that he is the leader of our favorite team.
The Hawkeyes’ ground game looked good, once again, with LeShun Daniels ripping off 112 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries, including a 43 yard score in the third quarter. Akrum Wadley added another score on the ground and managed to juke the entire Iowa State defense out of their shoes in the process.
It’s only been two games (and two extremely winnable games, at that), but things seem to be taking shape for the Hawkeye team. Both the offense and defense appeared to take a step forward after Week 1. I don’t know if Iowa is really good or if Iowa State is really bad (it could be a little of both), but tonight was fun to watch.
Enjoy this one. It’s a Hawkeye State.
