The crew here at The Pants is overjoyed to announce we are continuing BHGP’s well-documented partnership with Iowa Touchdowns For Kids for the seventh year running.
If you’re unfamiliar with TD4K, all you really need to know is it’s the official fall fundraiser for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network. And really, that should be enough for you right there.
But let’s get down to brass tax tacks: you pledge a dollar amount for every touchdown Iowa scores during its 12-game regular season. You can start at $1 per touchdown and bump it up from there. The Hawkeyes score points on the field, and you score major karma points in the form of dollar pledges to the Children’s Hospital. None of the money goes to us or a third party. One-hundred percent of your donation goes through the Children’s Miracle Network to the hospital. For once, Iowa fans might be able to actually thank Greg Davis.
Once the regular season finishes up, you’ll receive an invoice from the hospital, and you fulfill your tax-deductible pledge for 2016.
The enrollment form can be found at the bottom of this post. You can also choose to enroll here. When filling out the form, please be sure to select Black Heart Gold Pants under “how did you learn about Iowa Touchdowns for Kids” so we can track how generous all of you are as the season rolls on and keep you all updated with our progress.
This year is pivotal for TD4K as it completes the finishing touches on the new, 12-story Children’s Hospital. The final brick was laid about a year ago, and it plans to open its doors to patients by December.
If one wants to see tangible results from TD4K, they don’t have to look any further than the 12th floor of the hospital, home of the Press Box Café.

The importance such an amenity has in a children’s hospital cannot be overstated. It will create an escape for families while dealing with whatever is thrown at them during their time at the facility. On Saturday’s in the fall, it will transform into the best view for an Iowa game with the tallest vantage point in Iowa City. Families will have the opportunity to enjoy ice cream, popcorn and other game day snacks all while escaping hospital life to take in the Black and Gold for a few hours.

Since 2010, TD4K has brought in nearly $400,000 in donations from people like us. The Press Box Café is earning its name because of the program, and we look forward to seeing how we can continue helping support the hospital in the future.
The donation form is below. I’ve already pledged $5 per touchdown, and might be inclined to feel more generous once my paycheck clears on Friday. Iowa scored 54 touchdowns last year, and you bet we can expect the Hawks to expand on that effort astronomically in 2016.
