The last time Iowa made the Sweet 16 Y2K was still a concern and the current Iowa players weren't even in grade school yet. 1999 was a long time ago, is what we're saying. Dr. Tom was still patrolling the Iowa sideline, and Dean Oliver, Jess Settles, J.R. Koch, Guy Rucker (LIFE AS A G), Joey Range, and Kent McCausland led Iowa to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament. That year they beat #4 seed Arkansas in the second round. This year #2 seed Villanova is standing in the way for Jarrod Uthoff, Adam Woodbury, Peter Jok, Mike Gesell, & Co.
Villanova is good -- very good. They're incredibly well-balanced and experienced. And they're hungry, too -- their Sweet 16 drought isn't as long as Iowa's, but they haven't played on the tournament's second weekend since 2009 and that run includes some very good 'Nova teams that underachieved in the tourney. They're hungry. We're hungry. Someone's gonna eat happy today -- please let it be Iowa.
