IOWA 72, TEMPLE 70 (OT): WOODY THE HERO

Adam Woodbury saves Iowa's bacon in a first round win over Temple.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

Iowa just beat Temple 72-70 in OT in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, thanks to an Adam Woodbury tip-in off an offensive rebound:

BOOM!

Iowa led for most of the game, but an ill-timed offensive drought (Iowa scored just one point in a five minute stretch near the end of the game) let Temple get back into the game.  With a chance to ice the game from the free throw line, Peter Jok went 1/2 on a pair of free throw opportunities, leaving Iowa with a 63-60 lead with roughly 10 seconds remaining.  Temple drove down to try and attempt a game-tying 3... and Anthony Clemmons fouled the shooter, Quenton DeCosey.  DeCosey stepped to the line... and made all three free throws.  Tie game.  Iowa's late full-court heave went out of bounds and Temple's attempt at a three-quarters court game-winner missed.  Overtime.

The teams went back and forth in the extra period, with Anthony Clemmons (the goat of regulation) and Adam Woodbury making several clutch plays.  Woodbury made two free throws early in the extra session and the game-winner late.  Clemmons played some superb defense and forced a key turnover that led to a Jok lay-up. He  also made one of two free throws.

With the win, Iowa will play #2 seed Villanova on Sunday, time/TV TBD.  Go here for more discussion about the game.
