The Iowa basketball team is playing their opening game of the NCAA Tournament tomorrow out in Brooklyn -- Brooklyn, New York, that is. We broke the news made up a fake story yesterday about the Iowa basketball traveling to Brooklyn, Iowa instead, due to a administrative error by the Iowa athletic department. It was, as the label on top of the page stated, a FAKE LIE STORY THAT IS NOT REAL. That didn't stop local TV news in Brooklyn from reporting this:
Let's try this again... @Deadspin, @BHGP tricked local BK news. Thought you should know. Thanks @craigjmckinney. pic.twitter.com/fv6aaSKuCR

H/T to @robostheimer and @craigjmckinney for calling this to our attention -- thanks!
Welp.
The station -- which looks like News 12 Brooklyn -- dutifully reported the story and and a few of our made-up details (like the notion that the Iowa athletic department was scrambling to find travel arrangements to get them to Brooklyn, New York)... all without apparently ever noticing the label on the story or its inherent absurdity. Or, you know, the fact that no news outlet (particularly an Iowa media outlet) was reporting the story. Probably because it was... fake.
Hooray for journalism!
