JARROD UTHOFF, IOWA HOOPS MAKE THE COVER OF SPORTS ILLUSTRATED

We're ready for our close-up.

Sports Illustrated

If it seems like it was just a few short months ago that we were writing a similar post, well, it's because it was just a few short months ago that we were writing a similar post -- George Kittle and the Iowa football team made the cover of Sports Illustrated after a win over Purdue pushed them to 11-0 on the season. Guess who's back, back again on the cover of Sports Illustrated?  The Iowa Hawkeyes, that's who.

This time it's Jarrod Uthoff and the Hawkeye hoopsters making the cover of SI on the basis of a top-5 ranking earned from a 17-4 record, including an 8-1 start to Big Ten play with sweeps of Michigan State and Purdue.

It's such a great year.  In fact, it's the first time ever that Iowa has had a football player and a basketball player on the cover of SI.

Iowa last had a basketball player on the cover of SI back on January 24, 1966, when George Peeples graced the cover for a Hawkeye team contending for a Big Ten title in Ralph Miller's second year as head coach.  (For the record, Iowa went 17-7 that year, including 8-6 in the Big Ten to finish 3rd.)

Like the Kittle cover in November, this is a regional cover, so if you're outside of the midwest, you'll be seeing, uh, this:

Go Iowa Awesome.
