Redshirt freshman Brett Waechter, a 6’5” 290 lb offensive tackle from Hartley, Iowa announced today that he is leaving the Iowa Football program. Waechter was listed as the second team left tackle in spring practice this year, but has battled an unknown medical issue for some time. He announced today that the issue will cause him to give up his football career at Iowa.

While Waechter wasn’t a major contributor this season, the coaching staff had expressed a lot of optimism and he seemed poised to be a contributor over the next several years on the offensive line. He was a 3-star recruit according to 247Sports and member of the class of 201. He had worked his way onto the depth chart as a RS freshman heading into this season.
Waechter will continue to be enrolled at the University of Iowa and pursue his degree in engineering. Best of luck to you, Brett Waechter.
