Whatcha Drinkin, Who Ya Watchin: Week Six

Iowa’s season may be on the brink of disaster, but there are plenty of other great teams you can watch this weekend!

Northwestern v Iowa
No more of this, please!

Last week was brutal for Iowa fans, but there were some really great games across college football. Looking ahead to what’s on the docket this week and there are a handful of really compelling matchups, a bunch of mediocrity and some weirdness.

Things actually started last night (who knew) with Georgia Southern and Arkansas State. I know you were all glued to your TVs for that one. Tonight we get some action to hold us over into the good stuff. Temple is at Memphis at 7 CT on ESPN while Western Kentucky is at Louisiana Tech at the same time on CBS Sports. Riveting.

Tomorrow night we get a little bit better as #3 Clemson heads to Boston College at 6:30 CT on ESPN. At 7 CT SMU kicks off at Tulsa over on ESPN2. And at 8 CT you’ve got #19 Boise State at New Mexico on CBS Sports.

Minnesota v Iowa
The Hawkeyes look to lock up their second rivalry trophy on Saturday, and potentially salvage this season.

Saturday, Iowa looks to bring home the bacon (I’m only mildly ashamed of that one) at Minnesota at 11am CT on ESPN2. Your BFF Beth Mowins is on the call yet again. Other matchups of note in the 11am CT time slot include the Red River Rivalry (Texas at #20 Oklahoma for all the significant others just dropping by to see what all the fuss is about) on FS1, Notre Dame at NC State on ABC, LSU at #18 Florida on ESPN, and Maryland at PSU on BTN (OK, that’s not a compelling matchup, but its a conference game, whatever).

The 2:30 time slot has a few decent matchups, but the geniuses at the TV networks apparently don’t care what you watch as they are still showing TBD for a few of them. Indiana will be getting murdered by OSU on ESPN, Purdue is at Illinois in a game that may end in a 0-0 tie on BTN, and #9 Tennessee is at #8 Texas A&M on CBS. The decent matchups with TV listings still up in the air are #25 VaTech at #17 UNC and BYU at MSU.

The late games get started at 6pm CT with #1 Alabama at #16 Arkansas on ESPN while #4 Michigan is at Rutgers on ESPN2. At 6:30 CT #5 Washington is at Oregon on FOX. At 7 CT you’ve got #23 FSU at #10 Miami on ABC.

You late night PAC12 matchups are UCLA at Arizona State on ESPN2 and Washington State at #15 Stanford on ESPN, both at 9:30pm CT.

Mmmmmm, beeeer.

Now that I’m officially out of bleach and have essentially checked out of the football season (I believe the technical term is Stage 5: Acceptance), it’s time to start going with the flow a bit and enjoying a few beverages. This week, why not try a little Minnesota theme with a Summit Oktoberfest. Note that for once, this is actually what I am thinking about drinking. Decent beer, decent price, hoping for the same thing out of the Hawkeyes. Just be decent, damnit.
