BUY A TICKET, GET A PRIZE. No, not a Cracker Jack prize but maybe Cracker Jacks. Iowa is not raising ticket prices but they aren't lowering them either. The University released a statement that states fans that purchase season tickets will get $70 to spend at Historic Kinnick Stadium's concession stands. Weee!
This is no doubt a response to numbers published in the Iowa City Press Citizen early this week. Iowa's research shows that 64% of current football season ticket holders plan to renew. While there's certainly new fans that could join the ranks of the season ticket holder, these numbers should still be concerning. The PC charts the attendance numbers since 2005 and Iowa's trending downward. The last season to average a sellout for the year was 2011.
GET READY FOR SOME COMBINE ACTION. Iowa's Brandon Scherff and Andrew Donnal will participate in the NFL Combine on-field events Friday. Over the weekend, defensive tackles Carl Davis and Louis Trinca-Pasat will also get their shot at running, jumping and other fun activities. Mike Mayock, NFL analyst, believes Scherff is the best OL available. So, tune in for a lovefest on the NFL Network.
ANOTHER WEEK, ANOTHER NEWSPAPER TELLING US HOW TO BEHAVE. Fill those seats! Don't overreact. That's the advice from The Des Moines Register's Chad Somethingorother and Rick Brown. Losing sucks, but I prefer to heed the advice of the immortal Shock G, "Doowutchalike."
IT TOOK A RECORD BREAKING PERFORMANCE TO BEAT THE IOWA WOMEN. Lisa Bluder's squad climbed to #11 in the latest polls but after a loss at Minnesota will drop from that lofty spot. Minnesota sophomore Amanda Zahui B. totaled 39 points and 29 rebounds! The Gophers dropped Iowa 93-80.
