We spent a lot of time this week pondering what the end of this season might hold for Iowa and that's fun -- very fun when you'e 8-0, in fact. But now it's time to put our speculation hats aside and get back to the thing that really, truly matters: the games. Dreaming of a bigger, better tomorrow, of what might be in the pot of gold at the end of Iowa's rainbow is fine and good, but the games are what we care about. They're what we'll remember and what we'll cherish.
We won't remember the hours we spent debating why Alabama was ranked ahead of Iowa in the first College Playoff Committee rankings, or wringing our hands about the committee's oft-incoherent logic, or gritting our teeth about the committee oohing and aahing over splashy, high-scoring offenses. What we will remember is plays like Desmond King jumping a screen route and taking it 88 yards the other way and scoring a touchdown. Or Akrum Wadley slipping through holes like an eel. Or Henry Krieger-Coble making spectacular diving one-handed catches. Those memories are why we got so wrapped up in this crazy sport every fall, hoping to add more special, exhilarating moments to our memory banks.
We only have four more regular season games this year to make more of those memories, starting today. Let's make them count.
