After last week's spectacular season opener against Oklahoma State at Grapple on the Gridiron, Iowa wrestling returns to the mat -- inside this time! -- for a decidedly more low-key affair.  This week is the latest annual installment of the season's traditional kick-off event, Iowa City Duals.  The Duals are a fairly sleepy affair, mostly because of the teams involved  -- you don't get a lot of intrigue when you bring in Coe or Cornell (the one in Iowa, not the excellent program out east), SIU-Edwardsville, etc.  The most interesting thing about the Duals is usually seeing who scores the most pins and how fast they get record them.

This year Iowa added a little more spice to the event by having Maryland come to Iowa City the same day as the Duals.  The meet against the Terps isn't technically part of the Duals... but for all intents and purposes it's part of the Duals (at least for Iowa; Maryland isn't hanging around to face the other teams).  Iowa faces Maryland at 11 AM, then wrestles the other three schools back-to-back-to-back at 12:30 PM, 2 PM, and 3:30 PM.  It's gonna be a busy afternoon.  That said, Maryland isn't likely to up the competitive aspect of this event all that much -- they have just handful of ranked wrestlers (#14 Geoffrey Alexander at 133/141 and #20 Lou Mascala at 157).  They're still going to get rolled by Iowa.

The main takeaway for Iowa here is getting a chance to see a few different guys in action, particularly at weights that aren't fully decided, like 141, 157, and 165.  (Then again, we might not see different guys in action there -- 141 presently lists just Logan Ryan as an option there.)  But we should see Edwin Cooper and Skyler St. John at 157, as well as Patrick Rhoads and Burke Paddock at 165.  (Side note: it's really weird that guys like Ryan and Sam Stoll will have wrestled at Kinnick Stadium before they ever wrestled at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.)

The probable lineups for Iowa, Maryland, and the other teams in attendance are available here.

I'll update the results in the comments below.

The usual rules apply.
