Iowa ended their exhibition season on a down note, losing on a last second shot against DII powerhouse Augustana. That game doesn't count in the record books, but it could linger mentally -- for Iowa and for fans -- if the Hawkeyes aren't able to wipe it away with a strong start to the real season. Gardner-Webb is decent, but certainly a team that Iowa should expect to beat. But that will involve not playing as poorly in some facets as they did last Friday night.
And that's really the thing: how does Iowa play tonight. It's important to win -- a loss would be brutal -- but how Iowa plays matters almost as much as the result. We need to see Uthoff being aggressive and taking control of the game --- because Iowa isn't going to win many games this year with a passive Uthoff. We need to see better rebounding. We need to better defending. And most importantly we need to see contributions from the newcomers. Iowa needs Jones and the freshmen to make important contributions this year.
HOW TO WATCH/LISTEN: The game tips off at approximately 8:30 PM CT, with television/online streaming coverage from ESPN3. As far as I know, there is no local TV coverage of the game. You should also be able to listen to the game using the TuneIn radio stream here.
The usual rules apply: no links to illegal online streams, no porn, no politics, no religion, no slurs, etc. Don't be an ass.
Go Hawks.
