KIRK FERENTZ TALKS UNI. It's the first weekly press conference of the season. Ferentz talked about several topics including this week's upcoming game with Northern Iowa. Here's the transcript. I'll summarize the major points with bullets:

  • Captains this week: Quinton Alston, Mark Weisman, Brandon Scherff and Louis Trinca-Pasat
  • Darian Cooper did have knee surgery and is out for the year
  • Riley McCarron could be back from his collarbone injury by the bye week
  • If the game were tomorrow, Dillon Kidd and Marshall Koehn are your punter and kicker
  • Freshman kicker Mick Ellis still could play this year and burn his red-shirt
  • Freshman Aaron Mends has moved to fullback and could burn his red-shirt
  • Miles Taylor and Ben Niemann are two other true freshmen that could play this year
  • Damond Powell is ahead of recovery schedule but is still catching up
  • KF is concerned about the cohesiveness of the entire team
  • Nate Meier is one of the most improved players on the team
  • LeShun Daniels and Henry Kreiger-Coble also improved a great deal
And there's certainly more. Ferentz talked about his four main running backs and the talent at wide receiver. He also talked linebackers and comparisons between his 2012 team that played UNI and this team.

THE PLAYERS SPOKE TOO. Marc Morehouse has video interviews with Damon Bullock, Matt VandeBerg and Kevonte Martin-Manley. In part II, there's more from Tevaun Smith, Mark Weisman and Dillon Kidd. Finally, in part III,we hear from Carl Davis, Louis Trinca-Pasata and Jacob Hillyer. Hawkmania has Jake Rudock for us too.

CAMP, AND THE GRIND, IS OVER.

THE BROWNS GOT A GOOD ONE.

ALSO. Goodbye Hawkeyedrive.com and good luck. Here's to a bright future.
