IT'S NOT PLAGIARISM IF YOU LINK TO IT: IOWA LOSES TO MARYLAND AND DROPS TO 5-2

We put the "I" in irrelevant.

Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

JUST AVERAGE. Kirk Ferentz talked about Maryland winning after the game.

THERE'S GAME RECAPS. Iowa started hot but mistakes and a no-show by the defense for the second week in a row doomed Iowa. Jake Duzey fumbled after a gain for a first down in the early going that handed over the momentum to Maryland. The run game found room in the early going but Iowa opted for an air attack against a Maryland team that was surrendering over 200 yards a game on the ground per game. A late pick-six thrown by Jake Rudock practically sealed it for the Terps. That, and Iowa completely ditching the run and going to a five-wide offense into a 15 mph wind on the road. Maryland 38, Iowa 31.

THE DEFENSE HAS PROBLEMS. Maryland attacked Iowa's weakness at linebacker and moved the ball sometimes with ease on the ground. Iowa couldn't contain CJ Brown on third and long. Iowa couldn't stop Maryland when it mattered and the nation's 93rd rated rush offense rolled up 38 points (31 from the offense). The four top rushers in the nation are in the Big Ten and Iowa still has three of the four left on the November schedule. They have to figure out something before Iowa takes on David Cobb, Melvin Gordon and Ameer Abdullah.

JAKE GOT OFF TO A HOT START. Iowa had over 100 yards of total offense in the first four minutes of the game yesterday. They did finish with over 440 but a lot of that came in a last panicked effort. Rudock, at one time, had a QB rating of over 300. That was with the wind. Jake regressed and things went downhill after the opening half quarter. Things are concerning.
