It's Not Plagiarism If You Link To It: Polls? We're Talkin' Polls?

Iowa is ranked in basketball and in way too early football polls too.

THE HAWKEYE MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM REMAINS RANKED. That, despite the meltdown in Madison. We've discussed that game Sunday night a ton on here. We'll save that for other links. Fran's team moves up to #20 in the AP Top 25. The Hawks are ranked #23 (tied with Creighton) in the Coaches Poll.

AFTER A PAIR OF LOSSES, THE LADIES DROP OUT OF THE TOP 25. Lisa Bluder's team has dropped a pair of games to open Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes dropped a tough road game to a surprising Indiana squad. They also lost to then #15 Penn State on Sunday. The Hawkeye women are still receiving votes and sit #31 in yesterday's AP Poll.

THE FINAL FOOTBALL RANKINGS WERE RELEASED. The Hawkeyes didn't crack the Top 25 this season but they came a helluva lot closer to doing so than any of us imagined. The Hawkeyes received 13 votes in the final AP Top 25 placing them 32nd.

WITH THE BCS NCG PLAYED LAST NIGHT, TODAY IS THE WAY TOO EARLY 2014 TOP 25 DAY. With the last remaining Florida State fans still exiting the Rose Bowl, we already have national media looking ahead to next season. ESPN's Mark Schlabach released his early Top 25. We've discussed the formula: final game(s), key losses/returning starters and future schedule (check, check and check). Schlabach has Iowa #21 in his early 2014 poll.

SPEAKING OF THE COMBINE. Jack Betcha mentioned on Twitter yesterday that he will represent C.J. Fiedorowicz and Anthony Hitchens. Neither have confirmed yet to get an invite for the NFL Combine but you have to imagine they will. Fiedorowicz cracks the Top 50 players on one draftnik's list. Christian Kirksey is also there as player #100.

LEVAR WOODS IS UP FOR AN HONOR. Woods was named as a finalist for Football Scoop's Linebacker Coach of the Year Award. Woods is getting all the credit here from Football Scoop but Jim Reid deserves a mention too. Woods coached Iowa's outside linebackers this season. Reid, the middle linebackers.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING IS HEATING UP. National Signing Day is less than a month away. The dead period is just about over and coaches can again visit recruits. With Charlie Strong leaving Louisville for Texas, there was a slight chance that Iowa was back in play for former commit and Des Moines Lincoln/Iowa Western Community College prospect Trevon Young. Young put the discussion to rest when he decided to stick with the Cardinals.
