Caring Is Creepy 2015: Looking At Iowa Hawkeye Football Recruiting Targets

New, 93 comments

Signing Day 2014 is a week away so let's turn our focus on Iowa's targets for the 2015 recruiting class.

Reese Strickland-USA TODAY Sport

2015 HAS A CHANCE TO BE A REALLY GOOD YEAR. We talked about some of the visitors Iowa hosted for their annual Junior Day January 18th. The Hawkeye recruiting focus turned back to the 2014 class when Iowa hosted several of their verbal commits (and two new ones) on campus for official visits January 25th. The National Letter of Intent will be signed and faxed shortly by the 2014 prospects. We'll focus more on the 2014 class next week. For now, let's look at the prospects Iowa is targeting for the 2015 class.

We've done this the last two years and also discussed the change in the speed of recruiting. Iowa currently has two verbal commitments for their 2015 class: QB Jack Beneventi and OL Jacob Newberg. At this time last year, Iowa had Jay Scheel and Ross Pierschbacher down as verbal commitments. Pierschbacher switched his commitment to Alabama over the summer but the trend is there. Iowa is getting commitments earlier than seasons past.

Looking at the last two years this may be an exercise in futility. In February 2012, Iowa had offers out to about 50 high school juniors (link one, link two). This year they've offered 42. Of those 50 or so prospects with offers in 2012, Iowa landed only West Des Moines product Jon Wisnieski. In 2013, Iowa had offers out to about the same number. They landed Jay Scheel and Keegan Render. Both in-state prospects.

Voice of the Hawkeyes, the 24/7 Hawkeye recruiting site, shows Iowa with offers out to 42 2015 prospects. They use a temperature scale to gauge prospects interest in schools. Iowa currently shows one prospect calling Iowa his favorite and eight as warm. We'll focus mainly on the prospects maybe leaning Iowa's way and list the others holding offers as names to watch over the recruiting year.

WELL, THERE'S SOME HIGHLY RATED PROSPECTS INTERESTED IN IOWA. Of course, it helps there's a connection with a few: Jashon Cornell plays at Cretin Derham Hall and is coached by former Hawkeye Broderick Binns, Justin Hilliard is the brother of current 2014 verbal commit C.J. Hilliard and James Daniels is the brother of current Hawkeye running back LeShun Daniels. So, that's a start.

HERE ARE THE PROSPECTS ALSO LISTED WITH HAWKEYE OFFERS. Each name is linked to their 24/7 profile. There you can see which schools Iowa is competing with and see which school 24/7 predicts the prospect will land via their crystal ball predictions.

Late update: Psst, Iowa is offering more prospects
