KIRK FERENTZ HAD PLENTY OF FACE TIME ON THE FOUR LETTER NETWORK. Ferentz first started the day chatting with ESPN readers. He answered questions about the QBs, TEs, and both offensive and defensive lines. The answers were pretty standard stuff from Ferentz.

Ferentz very excited about the potential of DT Carl Davis and OL Brandon Scherff this year. Both have battled through injuries. #ESPNB1G

Ferentz also joined ESPN's college football show College Football Live. Ferentz talked about the quarterback battle, the youth at wide receiver and the coaching transitions.

A COUPLE OF INCOMING HAWKS SHINE IN THEIR FINAL HIGH SCHOOL ALL-STAR GAMES. Last weekend, Iowa walk-on Boone Meyers earned defensive MVP honors at the Iowa Shrine Bowl. Meyer's Shrine experience went well beyond the week of practice and the game.
Iowa's quarterback recruit, Nic Shimonek, also had a strong performance on the field. Shimonek led his North team down the field on a final drive to win the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game. He finished the game 8 of 9 passing for 172 yards and a touchdown through the air and rushed for a TD.
PREVIOUSLY OFFERED AS A GRAYSHIRT. Matt VandeBerg will now join the Hawkeye team Saturday, with the rest of the 2013 recruiting class. A grayshirt offer means a recruit will have to pay their own way for the first semester on campus and then receive a scholarship in January. The loss of Cameron Wilson may have opened up the scholarsip for this season for VandeBerg. He will start his career at Iowa as a wide receiver. He still may have a better future on the other side of the ball at safety.
GERRY DINARDO TWEETS BOUT CROOTIN.

NEBRASKA? WISCONSIN? Some Nebraska fans and bloggers have expressed interest in the Huskers facing Wisconsin instead of Iowa in the final game of the season, otherwise known as "rivalry" week. Iowa hasn't held their end of the "rivalry" in regards to making it even. Nebraska owns Iowa in the win column. If there's a change it won't occur until 2018.
SOMEBODY LEND ME $10. I don't have a subscription to ESPN Insider so I can't really tell you what this article says. But, the teasing information probably provides enough information. Jeff Goodman considers Iowa hoops one of his 10 "X-factor" teams this season.
HAWKEYE BASKETBALL GETS 10 EXTRA PRACTICES TO PREP FOR THE EURO TRIP. Those started Wednesday evening. Mike Gesell won't participate so the team will experiment with guard combinations. Devyn Marble excelled at the point in Iowa's run in the NIT last March. He and Anthony Clemmons will split time filling in for Gesell.
WE MAY KNOW A COUPLE MORE OF IOWA'S NON-CON OPPONENTS.
Iowa is rumored to be playing Penn (9-22, RPI of 280) in basketball this season. Oh joy!
