HAWKEYE BASEBALL HAS THEIR NEW COACH. Rick Heller is familiar with the state of Iowa. He's a native of the state, originally from Eldon, Iowa. Heller is excited to get started and said in a press conference yesterday, "It's great to be a Hawkeye, and it's great to be home. I can't tell you how excited I am to get started." The new Hawkeye coach added that ""The future starts today, and the future is bright."
AARON WHITE AND UNIVERSITY GAMES TEAM USA WRAP UP PLAY TODAY. Following a pair of losses to Canada and Australia Team USA got back on the better side of the win column versus Germany. White had two points and one rebound in the effort. While he isn't bringing home a gold medal, he will return with added experience. White said, "I think I've grown mentally as a player, playing a different role than I do at school, trying to be a better teammate if you are not getting the minutes you usually do,''
GARY BARTA STANDS BEHIND FOOTBALL GRADUATE ASSISTANT COACH DJ HERNANDEZ. His brother is facing murder charges and Gary Barta wanted to drive the point home that DJ "did nothing wrong." Barta added that he's "100% behind DJ."
MORE WATCH LIST STUFF. All three Iowa starting linebackers, James Morris, Christian Kirksey and Anthony Hitchens, were named to the preseason Butkus Award watch list. The trio are part of the list containing 51 players this year.
FRAN MCCAFFERY IS IN A HEATED RECRUITING BATTLE FOR TYLER ULIS. Ulis is currently tearing up the summer hoops circuit at the Peach Jam. Ulis talks about his game here:
