ATHLON SPORTS NAMES THEIR PRESEASON ALL-BIG TEN TEAMS. Like Phil Steele, Athlon only has one Hawkeye on the first team. Jordan Cotton was tabbed by both publications as preseason first team all-Big Ten as a kick returner. James Morris and Mike Meyer earn second team on Athlon's list. Brandon Scherff is the lone Hawkeye on their third team all-Big Ten. No C.J. Fiedorowicz to be found.

IF YOU AIN'T CHEATIN, YOU AIN'T TRYING. Or something like that. Iowa self-reported some minor NCAA violations per an open-records request from the Cedar Rapids Gazette. Several coaches in several sports at Iowa were in violation of NCAA text messaging rules. Former football wide receiver coach Erik Campbell was cited as purchasing a dinner for a girlfriend while on a recruiting visit. Also, Iowa's URL was improperly used on mailings and flyers sent to prospective student athletes. For a period beginning last August through May of this year there were 15 violations total reported to either the Big Ten or the NCAA.

KINNICK'S NEW SCOREBOARD AND RIBBON PROJECT IS NEARLY COMPLETE. The Gazette has a slideshow of the progress. The project is expected to be finished by Iowa Football's season opener with Northern Illinois.

WHO'S READY FOR PRIIIIME TIIIME? The Prime Time basketball league, that is. The annual PTL draft was held Sunday night and surprise, Aaron White and not Roy Dev Marble was the first pick of the draft. Both White and Marble are competing for a place on the World University Games U.S. team and could miss PTL play if selected. The league is back to six teams after condensing to only four last year. League play begins Thursday.

DON'T FORGET THE GAME TIME LEAGUE. Melissa Dixon was the first player taken in the women's summer league. Like the PTL, the Dixon selection is a small surprise considering Samantha Logic was all-Big Ten. The ladies will begin their league play Wednesday evening.
