THERE WAS A BASKETBALL GAME. Fran McCaffery talked about Iowa's loss at Iowa State following the game in Ames.

WE CAN BRIEFLY GET RECAP-Y. Iowa seemed in control for all but most of the game in Ames. The loss was a team effort. Aaron White, who had a terrific game, had a costly turnover with under a minute to go in the game. Devyn Marble missed the front end of a one-and-one and Mike Gesell missed to important free throws down the stretch. The Cyclones won the game 85-82. Despite the loss, Iowa remains a confident team and will have one more warm-up game before opening conference play on New Year's Eve.
BRANDON SCHERFF TALKS ABOUT HIS DECSION TO COME BACK. Kirk Ferentz gave his pitch to Iowa's junior offensive tackle. Turns out, Scherff didn't need to be sold. He likes it at Iowa. His return will be big for Iowa in 2014. The Hawkeyes lose two starters off of this year's offensive line (Connor Boffeli and Brett Van Sloten). Scherff has been the anchor this year and was named to Athlon's third team All-American team last week.

LSU PLAYER HONORED. The Tigers have plenty of offensive weapons for Iowa to worry about. The best may be wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He does more for the Tigers than just catch passes. He's also their kick and punt return man. Beckham Jr. was recently honored with the Paul Hornung Award which is given to the nation's most versatile player.
LSU STUDENTS AREN'T EXACTLY BUYING UP TICKETS. If you're an LSU student and you attended at least three home games this season you can get free tickets to the Outback Bowl, courtesy of the LSU Athletic Department. Reports on Twitter late last week were that LSU had sold 100 student tickets to the game on January 1st.
IOWA GENERAL TICKET SALES CONTINUE TO SELL WELL. Hawkeye fans have gobbled up almost 10,000 tickets for the Outback Bowl. Iowa's allotment of tickets is 11,500. With a final push, Iowa should sell out their total amount.
A FORMER HAWKEYE ALSO GAVE AWAY FREE TICKETS OVER THE WEEKEND.

THE HAWKS ARE PRACTICING. There's photo galleries on Hawkeye Sports. Here's one, another and another. Jake Rudock is practicing with two knee braces. Also, there's plenty of pics of the next generation of starters there.
