BRET BIELEMA FIRES OFFENSIVE LINE COACH MIKE MARKUSON. In his weekly press conference, Bielema talked about the shocking employment termination just two games into the 2012 season. Things aren't so rosy in Buckyland after accumulating only 207 yards and losing 10-7 at Oregon State. Wisconsin hired six new assistants this off -season after offensive coordinator Paul Cryst and friends left for Pittsburgh.
REMEMBER WHEN IT WAS: TAYLOR MARTINEZ FOR HEISMAN? Like a week ago? Nebraska scored only six points in the second half on the road against UCLA. They were 1-11 on third downs. The QB position isn't Nebraska's problem as the famed "Black Shirts" allowed UCLA to gain 653 total yards.
PURDUE HUNG IN THERE BUT COULDN'T PULL IT OUT AGAINST NOTRE DAME. Now, there's concern over senior quarterback Robert Marve's knee. Marve is listed as the #2 QB on this week's depth chart but it's likely he'll sit out Saturday's game with Eastern Michigan.
INDIANA IS 2-0. But, they lost their star quarterback, sophomore Tre Roberson for the season. Roberson had TD runs of 50 and 39 yards before his injury. It's now the Cam Coffman era in Hoosierland.
MICHIGAN WAS A 20+ FAVORITE OVER AIR FORCE. They eeked out a home win thanks to fourth quarter defense. The defense is a real concern for Maize and Blue fans. Air Force plays methodical offense that controlled the tempo and TOP. While some Michigan fans were pulling their hair out, it's not always as bad as it seems.
jNORTHWESTERN IS 2-0, AND AGAINST BCS TEAMS. The Wildcats are getting shifty on offense and it's working. The Cats have some weapons on offense and have won the turnover battle thus far. There's still a QB battle taking place as Kain Colter and Trevor Siemian are fighting for first team reps.
THE GOPHERS ARE 2-0 TOO. And it's a fine week to be a Gopher fan. The Packers, Badgers and Hawkeyes all lose. They are certainly relishing the weekend that was.
URBAN MEYER IS GETTING HIS TEAM FOCUSED ON CAL. First, he talks a little about the win over UCF. The Buckeyes put a beat down on George O'Leary's team but not without QB Braxton Miller taking plenty of hits. The Buckeyes have injuries at the running back position and are still developing on the defensive side of the ball.
AND THERE'S 0-2 PENN STATE. Lions fans are learning how to lose. They had a chance to win it but the kicking game continued to struggle. It's Navy then Temple next on the schedule. Then it's the Big Ten slate.
MICHIGAN STATE IS 2-0. Quarterback Andrew Maxwell struggled in the season opener against Boise State but seemed to figure it out against Central Michigan. Maxwell performed so well he's now second in total passing yards among all Big Ten QBs.
