IOWA FOOTBALL, HARD KNOCKS STYLE.
2012 Hawkeye Football Preseason Camp- Week 1 (via GoHawksTV)
IF YOU DIDN'T GET ENOUGH VIDEOS FROM MONDAY'S MEDIA DAY. Marc Morehouse has posts with both players and coaches. For coach videos there's Kirk Ferentz, Reese Morgan, Phil Parker, Greg Davis, Brian Ferentz, Erik Campbell and Lester Erb. Player videos include: Jordan Canzeri, Jacob Hillyer, Nico Law, Damon Bullock, CJF, Darian Cooper, Jake Ruddock and Austin Blythe.
CARL DAVIS IS LOOKING THINNER. Davis had knee surgery in January and dropped 20 pounds from his 310 pound body. He says now that is he 100% healthy. Davis credits Coach Doyle for motivating him and helping reshape his body. He also told Rob Howe that he's impressed with newcomer Jaleel Johnson as he is "tossing around some big bodies" in practice.
TODD BROMMELKAMP SHARES THE FIVE THINGS HE LEARNED AT MEDIA DAY. He writes that everyone likes Greg Davis. Jacob Hillyer told Brommelkamp that Greg Davis' playbook is a little easier to understand than former offensive coordinator Ken O'Keefe's. Todd also writes that Nico Law doesn't say much. Hard to believe that a kid that once produced his own radio show is suddenly shy. It was his first Media Day though.
THE BTN IS CURRENTLY IN IOWA CITY. The Big Ten Network will air an Iowa Football Special tomorrow night as they kick off their Fall football camp tour. Tom Dienhart had a chance to talk with Phil Parker, Iowa's new defensive coordinator. Phil talks about the defensive line, the secondary, and his relationship with former DC Norm Parker.
WE ARE ALREADY GETTING TWEETS FROM THE BTN OBSERVING PRACTICE.
Just spoke w Erik Campbell - says Don Shumpert has really emerged.Doesn't think RB issue will impact offensive philosophy too much

HOW ABOUT AN ALL-IOWA OFFENSIVE LINE? Kirk Ferentz said you can throw out the depth chart because everything is still up from grabs. However, if the current starting lineup is the same on opening day, we'll see five Iowa born offensive line maulers. Between the current five - Van Sloten, Blythe, Ferentz, Tobin and Scherff - they totaled 14 scholarship offers. Definitely the most Kirk Ferentz offensive line ever.
MEDIA DAY IS OVER, BACK TO PRACTICE. And there's practice pictures from Hawkeye Sports. Greg Davis found his hat. Steve Ferentz makes an appearance. Also included: Jim Poggi, a lot of Jaleel Johnson, Sean Draper and Anthony Gair.
PHARTY PROFILES DARIAN COOPER. Iowa's defensive line is young and inexperienced. Besides Carl Davis, mentioned above, the Hawkeyes will look for quality minutes out of red shirt freshman Darian Cooper. He's happy he took a red shirt to prepare his body and mind for Big Ten football. Cooper picked Iowa because of their ability to mold professional football players.
MARC MOREHOUSE DECLARED THIS SEASON "ENTER THE BLACK." Fellow Cedar Rapids Gazette writer Mike Hlas believes he's come up with the theme song. Neil Young's My, My, Hey, Hey is his choice.
WE FANS GET OUR CHANCE TO SEE THE 2012 HAWKEYES IN ACTION. This Saturday, Iowa will open its doors for "Kids Day in Kinnick." Gates open at 11am (CDT) and practice begins at noon. The first 3,000 entrants will receive a free Hawkeye poster. Players will be available for autographs for 30 minutes following practice.
THE BIG TEN ANNOUNCED THE ACC/BIG TEN BASKETBALL CHALLENGE GAME TIMES. We get ESPNU, again. Iowa will play at Virginia Tech on November 27th. The 6:15pm (CDT) tip will be the warm-up act on ESPNU for Wake Forest and Nebraska.
