Caring Is Creepy 2013: Have A Seat, Sean Welsh

Moments after news broke about Andre Harris' verbal commitment to Iowa on Friday, Iowa added another verbal commitment in the form of Ohio OL prospect, Sean Welsh. The creepy kazoo is really getting a workout, you guys. Welsh is a consensus 3* recruit who also had a boatload of offers -- Rivals lists 16 different schools, including West Virginia, Miami (FL and OH), Louisville, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Air Force, and Indiana.

Welsh projects as an interior lineman -- guard or center -- and is listed at 6-3, 297. From his highlights, Welsh looks to have a bit of a mean streak (always a plus in a lineman) and no problem playing to the whistle. He's also quite good at finishing blocks -- he plants numerous poor defenders on their backs in those clips. On the other hand, there's also a downside to that, which is that he often takes himself out of the play entirely when he takes them to the ground; Ferentz & Co. might need to train him to be a little more careful when it comes to pancaking guys. But that's a fixable issue -- he looks like a very solid prospect and a strong addition to Iowa's offensive line depth.

Welsh is Iowa's second offensive lineman among this year's verbal commits, joining Colin Goebel out of Illinois. Like Welsh, Goebel seems to project as an offensive guard for now; they'll likely be competing with recent recruits Austin Blythe, Jordan Walsh, and Eric Simmons (a JUCO transfer) for playing time. In the meantime, welcome aboard, Mr. Welsh.
