Hawks Nest | Iowa Basketball 2012 Senior Day Promo (via hawksnestvids)
IT'S SENIOR DAY SATURDAY. It's a chance to knock jNITwestern out of any bubble talk and below Iowa in the Big Ten standings. It's setting up to be a perfect March Saturday. But, before we can look ahead to the future, we have to study the past. Here are you news links, Curious Index-y style.
IT WAS A SNOOZER OF A BASKETBALL GAME IN LINCOLN. At least until the final 15 minutes. Matt Gatens and Roy Dev Marble started to find the bottom of the net and the Hawks pulled away. Gatens finished the game with 16 points, Marble added 11.
CBI/CIT TOURNAMENT THE MOST LIKELY SPOT FOR IOWA? FOTP Storminspank has his breakdown of Iowa's tournament chances at HawkeyeNation. The NIT is harder to get into these days due to auto-bids from conference champions that lost in their conference tournaments.
HOOPS RECRUIT MIKE GESELL TOPS 2000 CAREER POINTS. His team may earn Nebraska's number one ranking after defeating Elkhorn South. Gesell and his South Sioux City Cardinals could be the number one seed in the Nebraska state tournament that begins next week.
FELLOW RECRUIT ADAM WOODBURY MAKES THE PLAYOFFS FOR THE FOURTH STRAIGHT YEAR. Woodbury, along with Hawkeye football walk-on Alex Imming, have been on the varsity basketball team since their freshman year. They've yet to win a championship and will enter the state tournament the #4 ranked team in the state. Sioux City East will play West Des Moines Valley Wednesday at 1:45pm.
PATRICK INGRAM'S TEAM IS KNOCKED OUT OF STATE BY A BANKED-IN BUZZER BEATER. Ingram will join Gesell and Woodbury next year as part of Fran McCaffrey's recruiting class. Michigan State recruit and five-star prospect Gary Harris pulled up from nearly half court to win the game against Ingram's North Central squad. Ingram had 22 points and six rebounds in the loss.
SAMANTHA LOGIC IS READY FOR
MARCHIFORNICATION MARCH MADNESS. During the Hawkeye's eight game win streak Logic has four double-doubles and one triple-double. She was named to the all-Big Ten Freshman team.
OTHER LADIES EARNED ALL-BIG TEN HONORS. Morgan Johnson was named to the all-Big Ten second team. Jamie Printy, despite injuring her knee, earned third team all-Big Ten. Joining them earning honorable mention and sportsmanship awards are Kamille Wahlin and Kelly Krei.
More after the jump.
THE NFL COMBINE IS OVER AND NOW IT'S MOCK DRAFT MANIA. Riley Reiff is expected to go in the first round, how high depends on team needs. SBNation plugs Reiff into the number eight spot headed to Miami. Makes sense, a former Iowa offensive line coach now head coach drafting a former Hawkeye offensive lineman.
MCNUTT'S DRAFT STOCK COULD BE ON THE RISE. Thanks for a 4.54 forty time turned in at the NFL Combine. McNutt talked to Orange and Brown Report about his preparation for the draft. Good thing his mom let him play football.
MARKUS ZUSEVICS' AGENT IS DOING SOME FINGER POINTING. Well, to be fair, the agents complaining aren't named in the article by NBC Sports. After Zus' torn pectoral - injured during the bench press test at the Combine - agents are asking if encouraging athletes to push past pain is ultimately worth it.
ARE WE READY FOR GREG DAVIS? IS GREG DAVIS READY FOR US? Texas is welcoming the number one recruiting class, Iowa is welcoming, well, a very Iowa recruiting class (45th rated by Scout which Pat Harty used for his article). Things are going to change, but they are not going to change writes Harty. Davis will bring a few wrinkles and maybe open that Texas recruitin' pipeline.
IF YOU"RE NOT PUMPED FOR PHIL PARKER MAYBE THIS HAWKEYE SPORTS VIDEO WILL HELP. Hawkeye Sports dot com released this narration over highlight video today. Learn about where Phil has been and where he sees the Iowa defense going.
KIRK FERENTZ IS ON THE HOT SEAT ACCORDING TO ATHLON SPORTS. Ferentz comes in ranked #14 in this Top 20. KF is one spot behind UNLV's Bobby Hauck. Athlon says that the season win total is slipping and us fans think things are stale. Ferentz is the only Big Ten coach to make the list.
A WEEK AFTER LOSING TO THE ILLINI, IOWA WON"T INVITE THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA FIGHTING SIOUX. It's school policy not to participate in athletic events with mascots not approved by the NCAA.
