LIVE, TODAY, FROM CARVER-HAWKEYE ARENA. Fran McCaffery's Hawkeyes will open Big Ten play with the Indiana Hoosiers this afternoon. The game is an announced sell-out, the first since Northwestern late last year. The Hawkeyes have only sold out the arena four times since 2009. MAD AGAIN, indeed.
LAST WEEK, MCCAFFERY TALKED ABOUT THE HOOSIERS. He called it a "great challenge." Adam Woodbury will get the first crack at stopping Hoosier superstar Cody Zeller. Mike Gesell and Anthony Clemmons will also have their hands full with Hoosier freshman phenom Yogi Ferrell. McCaffery says Basabe has practiced and should be good-to-go. Iowa's going to need everyone off the bench to hang with the nation's #5 team.

THE IOWA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM SPENT THE WEEKEND WINNING. They knocked off the nation's #20 team Texas Friday night and by a 23 point margin. The upset put Iowa in the final of the Maggie Dixon Surf `N Slam Classic against San Diego. The Hawkeyes won the tournament last night, defeating SD 83-73.
A HAWKEYE LEGEND IS RETIRING. John Streif, long-time Hawkeye athletic trainer and travel coordinator, will retire from Iowa January 2nd. This news has brought out the sincere tributes and goodbyes from those that know him. He will be missed.
MORE FERENTZ TO THE NFL. Marc Morehouse, of the Cedar Rapids Gazette, writes that KF to KC doesn't make sense. Morehouse summarizes the tweets we've all by now seen and notes that when asked about the Penn State position last season, Ferentz replied, ""When am I going to be old enough that you stop asking me about this [bleep]."
