THE WEATHER CHANNEL HAS NAMED THIS SNOW STORM DRACO. I named it Peanut. Why Peanut? Because naming snow storms is stupid. Any-who, let's hope the Hawkeye men's basketball team can get their game in tonight. The forecast is ugly. I'm sure by now you've see the giddy weather people and news stories from the supermarket. If the game is postponed, we'll certainly have an update here*. If not, sit home, relax, and watch what should be a slaughter.

THE STARTING LINEUP FOR THE HAWKEYES TONIGHT. Anthony Clemmons will start at the point, Mike Gesell at SG. Roy Dev Marble, Aaron White and Adam Woodbury round out the starting five. There are plenty of tickets available but with the weather there will be empty seats galore. The Big Ten Network will have tonight's game on TV and online at BTN2GO.

FRAN MCCAFFERY SAYS SOUTH CAROLINA STATE IS NOT TERRIBLE. South Carolina State is coming fresh off a 102-51 beat down at Missouri on Monday night. McCaffery went on to sell us a bit more on Iowa's opponent. SCSU comes to Carver-Hawkeye with a (4-7) record. They have wins over Claflin and Webber International.

IOWA IS MOVING UP IN THE BIG TEN. CBS Sports' Mike Singer says the Hawks are flying under the radar. The Hawkeyes have improved their defense from last season and average a Big Ten second best 5.3 blocks per game.

BESIDES A BETTER DEFENSE, IOWA BOASTS MORE OPTIONS ON OFFENSE. "There's no shortage of shooters here," said Aaron White. While Iowa's shooting percentage early in the season has been awful at times, there's options. That's a change from last year. Fran McCaffery said, "Opponents can't lock in on one guy like they did with (Matt) Gatens last year. That is part of what made what he did last season so amazing." Yet, another reason these Hawkeyes have been fun to watch.

THE HAWKEYE WOMEN PLAY TONIGHT TOO. The tip-off for Lisa Bluder's team is at 5:30 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Missouri State comes to Iowa with a (6-3) record. They've had Iowa's number in the past, winning four of the last seven meetings.

NEAT. Iowa football verbal commit Trevon Young, of Des Moines Lincoln, had a run in with the law in August that earned him a suspension the start of the football season. Now, the Des Moines Register reports, Young is no longer part of the Lincoln basketball team. No reason was given for Young's dismissal. He was averaging over 15 points and 12 rebounds per game.

FORMER HAWKEYE BASKETBALL PLAYER BRENNAN COUGILL GETS SUSPENDED. Cougill, part of the Lickliter era Hawkeyes, is suspended from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay basketball team. Cougill played one season at Iowa before transferring to Kirkwood Community College to work on his grades.

WATCH HAWKEYE VERBAL COMMIT NIC SHIMONEK THURSDAY NIGHT. Fox Sports Southwest (check your television provider) will air the Texas 2A state championship game between Shimonek's Mildred team versus East Bernard. Shimonek is Iowa's lone quarterback commit for the 2013 class. The game begins at 8 pm.
