BUT FIRST, LAST NIGHT, MARVIN MCNUTT DID THIS:

THE HAWKEYES ARE COMING TO DES MOINES. Iowa's capital city will host all four of the state's division I basketball teams Saturday as part of the new Big Four Classic. Iowa took on Creighton last year at Wells Fargo in Des Moines. The game was never close and according to Zach McCabe, "the Creighton game (last year) leaves a bitter taste in your mouth." Iowa tips off against Northern Iowa at 1:31 pm (CST). Iowa State will take on Drake at around 4 pm (CST).
FRAN MCCAFFERY TALKED ABOUT THE GAME WITH UNI. Fran talked about moving Mike Gesell from the point to off guard. He adds that UNI has "a lot of weapons." Stop if you've heard that before. UNI is a solid three point shooting team and Iowa will have to figure out how to match-up on the perimeter.
HAWKEYE BASEBALL PLAYERS ARE HAUNTED. That's the claim, anyway. Some Hawkeye baseballers are renting a house that they say has ghosts. The spirits seem harmless, it/they just want underwear. While ghosts are the perceived culprit it should be pointed out that underpants gnomes shouldn't be ruled out.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING IS HEATING UP. The dead period is coming soon but before it does there's plenty of hot news. Iowa's quarterback commit, Nic Shimonek, is setting all kinds of records at Mildred. Typically, the quarterback is the one commit that gets the most pub. Shimonek hasn't been mentioned a whole lot and his highlights on the web are hard to find (his Hudl highlights are set to private). This particular write-up takes you through his high school career from start to finish.
Iowa offered defensive tackle prospect Maliek Collins of Kansas City, Missouri, last night. When the news broke my first reaction was which DT on the roster is leaving. The late offer and reports over the summer that Iowa was done with defensive tackles make that assumption seem obvious. But, watch the YouTube of Collins and it certainly makes you think he might just be too good of a prospect to pass up. Collins had 45 tackles for a loss his senior season, including 15 sacks. Iowa is jumping in late here, Collins is set to visit Nebraska this week.
The Hawkeyes added immediate help at the wide receiver position when JUCO wide out Damond Powell committed. They may not be done with wide receivers as they are hot after Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's Brian Lemelle. He's built like Powell, 5'11" and 175 pounds. Iowa hopes to get a visit from Lemelle in January.
Finally, LeShun Daniels is set to decide between Iowa and Boston College. Daniels originally verbally committed to BC before the coaching change. He's an Iowa type back at 5'11" 220 pounds. With Brad Rogers' status unknown for 2013 Daniels could also be your fullback of the future.
